What civ do you play the most?

Just curious if folks have one civ they keep coming back to, and if so, why? Not necessarily a favorite civ, or the best.

The thought was sparked because I was recently in a bit of a rut, and couldn’t figure out what I wanted to play next - started and stopped several games on different settings. Without really thinking about it, I ended up firing up a game with Cree, which I then realized was maybe the tenth time I’ve played them? More? There’s something about them that feels comfortable to me - not easy in the sense that they are the strongest heading towards victory, but easy in that I think their gameplay is smooth, there are a lot of different paths to take, and I always seem to have fun with them. They’re basically my comfort-food civ.

I enjoy playing Australia (and yes, Zaarin, I have the music switched off) and tend to favour them, but I must admit I like Portugal, Norway and England as well. I like the Australian coast bonus, which suits my sprawling playstyle. There's also something about plonking down cities and thinking, "yeah, I've been there, been there, ooh - must go back there for another visit" too.

I have a cluster of civs I use over and over (because I have no imagination!), generally based on which victory condition I'm going for or map type I want to play. I play a lot of Korea, Sweden, America, Germany, Australia, and Rome, but I one-off every once in a while to try a different tactic. I play Rome most of all, as I feel Trajan has advantages that benefit just about any victory condition (my "comfort food" civ, as the OP put it).

Phoenicia, mostly. It's like Rome, but richer.

Random (it technically IS a choice from the drop-down list).

Kind of like Pokemon, I have to play them all.

Now that I've done that ive been going back and filling in my HoF. There are some I really like and will repeat over and over eventually. Germany, Hungary, Aztecs and Norway will get repeats but there were less powerful ones I had fun with too, Poland, Cree, Chandragupta India (actually I think he's criminally underrated).

I switch constantly.

I'm not sure I can pinpoint any one civ that I play a lot, but my favored group is France, Norway, Mali, Portugal, Greece, and Canada. I might be adding Spain to that list. We will see.

I try to mix it up, but Maya, Canada, Mali, and Pericles have been my most played...

I think Portugal will make their way onto the list too. I expected Gaul would have too but I feel less and less enthused by early rushes lately. Phonecia is probably my most played naval civ at the moment...

Rome! I really try not to but it just makes things easier and I know exactly how to use their benefits.

I've gotta break the habit actually!

Norway with the potential to have a +32 faith/production Holy site.

How do you get to 32? Best I could figure is with dance of the aurora, 6 adjacent tundra tiles with forest, but math may be wrong or missing something. (6 faith for dance of aurora, 9 for adjacent woods with stave church, x2 for policy = 30). But thanks for this, I like Brazil for their +24 faith/production holy site, and haven't tried the same with Norway.

Favourite civs: Canada, Brazil, Inca, Maori, Babylon, Cree, England, Russia

I must have had a wonder like UH....Khmer is still blowing away even Russia in the tundra for me. Can slap down cities with almost all ice for land as long as you have a river with a few tundra to place a holy site and it grows tall fast.

If I'm looking for a fun game, I like to play as a naval civilization (usually Portugal), set the map as Archaepelligo, take Owls of Minerva, add in every single Commercial City-State (plus Auckland), and then try to make as much money as possible. Aside from that, I enjoy Canada and Russia for the Working Winter combo.

Yeah, Rome might not be the best civ but they are certainly one of the most fun to play because early culture helps a lot, as does having instant roads, and the fact that you get a chop with the legions is really powerful in the ancient or classical era, you can easily go any victory type with Trajan.

Random. I usually let my civ dictate the victory I should aim for so it needs to be random to keep it fun.

I've played most pre-G&S civs more than once, but I think I've played as Persia the most times, followed by Phoenicia and Russia.

I used to do that but I would get on runs where it was three or 4 domination civs in a row and dom can get so tedious. Kept having to restart.
