What Civilization will you play first? Map type?

Probably see what the civs/leaders do before choosing one. But map I would play a standard climate/era/etc..., medium high difficulty, close to spherical world as they have, large map for a first epic game. Should be fun.

I picked Greece, it's fun building a new empire worthy of Alexander! I actually hold a bit of a grudge against Rome, stealing all of the Greek ideas, and then taking Greece, who really were a lot more advanced than the Romans.

2. I'd start with Germany or maybe Rome on a random map

My favourite Civilization.
I almost always play Greece. If Greece isn't in (Nonsense!) then I'll probably play as England.

As for map, Terra needs to come back. You get a mad land rush at the start, extremely tense diplomacy, Naval Units become extremely important then you get the same excitement about exploring and barbarians everywhere during the mid-game.

Then more diplomatic issues as civs start dropping colonies on the new world sometimes causing problems back home.

I'll play my first game as America, on the largest map they have of the Earth. I will have to see what the leader options are before I decide on that.

The Celts if they make it, if not then the Mongols or the Romans. I love making world conquering empires with both.

Most likely a continents map or earth if it's an easily chosen option. In early versions of Civ the random maps were awful.
