I'd probably scream and pretend to pass out. Or, failing that, "Polynesia".

see, if they can put in HRE, then they can definitely put in Polynesia. or something else worse...

well, ok, I didn't mean majority in it's literal meaning, I should have said that Israel were leading the votes. My mistake.

Polynesia is a good option. They sailed from places like Fiji and landed in America in CANOES I call that impressive. Plus it gives representation to the region.

Hittites, Benin (or Dahomey), Congo (I'd prefer it to be Kongo, though) and Polynesia would all be nice, although I'm not weeping over their exclusion from BtS. Perhaps in a third expansion (along with Empress Wu, the Moche and new leaders for Japan and Spain! :D). I also voted for Vietnam, for kicks.

The only civs on the list that I would consider would be Austria, Israel, Vietnam, Congo (Kongo) and the Hittites. Some of the others would be decent for a third expansion, but not BTS.

To be perfectly honest though, I think the selection of civs for BTS is a very good selection, even the seemingly satanical HRE.

Yah i have to agree with Bongo-Bongo. The selection of BtS was good. (still not to fond of HRE but still).

But i think the leader selection could've been differant. For HRE i would've liked another leader for Spain Japan and Arabia rather then Boudica, Lincoln and De Gaulle.

Polynesians may be a culture, but not really a civ worthy of being in the game. What would the unique unit be? Pearl diver??

I call that irrelevant- civilisation is not defined by, of all things, boat-building. For a start, many great classical civilisations didn't sail out of sight of land, let alone sail across the Pacific.

Plus it gives representation to the region.
Who says the region needs or even deserves representation? They never developed any form of civilisation, so what makes them deserving of representation in a game that goes by that very name?

Zulu wasn't unified either. Niether were the Celts or Vikings. Nor the Native Americans. For that matter, Neither was Greece or the Maya.

So that isn't a factor. The canoe building is quite impressive for there technology and is worth a cultural achievement.

well, the Polynesians did figure out a gazillion ways to make things out of coconuts!!! Vietnamese people eat and drink coconuts too, on an unrelated byt related note.

A straw-man attack, bravo! Associating me with a viewpoint that I had not shown any support for in my post, and have previously argued against! Is there any better way to argue?

No-one said it wasn't impressive. I just that it doesn't amount to civilisation.

Someone else may very well have said this, but couldn't the creators make a series of colony civs? I think Australia, Brazil, Canada, Mexico etc. shouldn't be directly included in BTS (not saying it wouldn't be nice to see them later) but maybe firaxis could make colony civs (that could be set to generate regularly) that don't have quite as much detail but give recognition to the respective regions. Also, sailing the pacific in canoes is impressive, but doesn't quite make a civ, all due respect to polynesia.

I can't help but wonder why Israel is getting so many votes.. It hasn't even been an independent nation but since 1948, even Finland is older. And without the military aid from the USA they'd still be throwing stones on their enemies, so no one can seriously vote for them. For the original question, I think all the important civs are already in, but if I had to choose I'd vote for Poland. Maybe. I don't want to see BTS turning to Sevomod, where a new civ means giving old leader head some new clothes and a new haircut. It's just so lame.

i voted for polynesia i think that would be an interesting civ to add, than maybe second would be canada but than america and canada are culturely very similar and may not add much but that would be my second choice canada.

Poland, Israel (as Ancient Hebrews IMHO), and Indonesia.

I almost clicked Sioux, but I'll mod the Native Americans to either be Sioux or Iroqouis. Most likely Sioux. Seems more respectful to give them a name of one of their cultures as opposed to a bland name incorporating the name of another civ!

Well, most people here have read the Bible. It was written from a Jewish perspective, so naturally it says their state was really important. Its more name recognition than anything else. The religion has been very important in world history (which includes the stories of the state), but it's already in the game. The state really doesn't deserve to be there before many, many other states.

Besides, Israel represents the Jewish people. Not in particular Israel. and then there is the kingdom of Israel.

But "Israel" does not necessarily mean the modern state of Israel- most people who vote for it want the Kingdom of Israel, the ancient nation. In short, they want Israelites, not Israelis.
Still, even with that view of Israel, I'd still say that there are more valid candidates- Israel's historical importance is often over-estimated due to the fact that they wrote the Bible, and people regularly forget that they spent much of their history under the thumbs of the Egyptians, Babylonians, Assyrians, Persians or Romans. If we need anymore middle-eastern civs- something which is questionable in itself- then the Hittites and Assyrians should get priority. Israel barely wins over Media (not an insignificant nation), let alone Assyria.
