@Master: Javelin Thrower, 2.2.1 archer/spearman combo. Enslaves enemies (33.3% chance).

Javelin Thrower is just meh, IMHO. At any level above Regent, the a=2 JT is pretty useless against anything except barbs.

If you don't have iron...
But, anyway, I rarely used archers before, and I don't think will will use them a lot.

Which is where it really becomes useful. Park outside barb camps, and, rather than overrunning the camp, kill any new barbs the camp spawns. It's a great way to acquire slave Workers and further speed the Mayan juggernaut. (Aside from the Inca, the Maya have the fastest start in the game.)

That said, the Byzantines were by far the most interesting and fun addition. Although the Maya and Inca were much-needed to fill out the Americas and because they were key civilizations in history, they just aren't as fun.

Voted Netherlands, solid traits and very usefull UU.

My favourite is Sumeria. How can you have a game called Civilization if it doesn't include the very first actual civilization? Doesn't make much sense to me. Good job Mr. Games Designer guy for figuring that out eventually. Ciao.

Netherlands :p

Cool UU, i find it a very cheap method of effective defence without all that saltpeter fuzz.

And bothof there civ traits are new, so its great to explore 2 new traits at the same time. Agricultural is my personal favorite, so that sure gets the netherlands some points. =D

and the count that i'm dutch myself isnt working against them either ;)

The Dutch. They demonstrate both new Civilization traits, both of which are incredibally powerful, and have one of the most powerful Unique Units in the game. The Byzantines are also a good choice, but the problem is they have the same start location as the Ottomans, ruining many world maps.

Byzantines definitly but i also like 3man chariots :)

The Byz sure are fun, but their UU is definitely underpriced (from galley, add attack point, 2 shot 2 bombard with lethal sea for 0 extra shields taking away nothing?!? And an extra move from Seafaring  )

My vote for best addition would be the Maya, not only for the historic/cultural hole they help fill, but also because the traits and UU have a synergy that often gives them huge momentum in the 'late' part of the expansionist phase. Also, as mentioned above, the Jav Thrower cost is more balanced, for fifty percent increase in cost and loss of def bombard, you gain a defense point and enslavement. Compare to Bab bowman, which was improved in C3C to have the def bombard. Same att/def as JT, for no more shields than archer. So, I have nothing against Dromon (except when the Byz AI declares war and denies me all water tiles until late medieval age), but play balance should also be a factor when considering the 'best' addition. Of course, I entertain all arguments that the Agricultural trait itself defies balance

I'd go for the new traits on Iroquois, and else for the mayans, for every possible good reason.

I voted the Dutch, from personal affection more than actual use. The Byzantines are awesome, though. I've read the Norwich books on them, so it was close for me.
