What could make civ5 more fun ?

How about adding more civs to choose from...why so few leaders and civs???

I apologize if somebody already posted that...I was skimming over the "this thread is useless BS".

I said - 8) Bring back Ships attacking land units. What a better way to make ships more useful?

You asked - Why? a ship is not going to go ashore, nor is it going to send its crew to do battle against a much better and larger enemy

I answered - The purpose of the ship attacks are to soften up the opponents, take down walls, damage buildings, conduct long range strikes withour reprisal. Who wouldn't want that on the battlefield?
For Example, American BattleShip
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iowa_class_battleship
Has guns that can fire over 20 miles inland, Harpoon missiles that can hit a target 192 miles away, and Tomahawk missles that can hit a target 1500 miles inland.
That could take out tanks, damage cities, or take out infantry. Civ3 had something similar, where the unit HP would be reduced, but not killed.
If if you say that the Tomahawks are cruise missles, so, they don't count, ok. My point is that Ships will eventually be able to destroy targets inland, and from a great distance away.

I mentioned:
11) Add FlameThrowers to take down structures or even forests.
12) Add Snipers, and Modern Snipers.
13) Advanced Attack Helocopters. 2010s Helos are much more effective than 1960s Helos.
14) Add Ballistas to early seige warfare (Greeks and Romans used them).
15) Add Sappers to take down walls (used everywhere by everyone around the world).

You said - How would this help the game besides adding pointless complexity?
Personally, I need the added complexity of coming up with a way around defenses, for example, by using Sappers, especially, before catapults are invented.
The Ballistas could fire over walls to reduce pop. It could be a Unique weapon, if they chose, but, it was used by more than 1 civilization that they already put into the game.
People have complained on here that the clothing and ethnicity of each empire wasn't complex enough for them. For me the weapon is more important.
Snipers (already mentioned by others on here) and helos need their upgrades as well.
Flamethrowers would have been for collateral dmg, probably the weakest in this list. They could be use to spread fires.

The weather I mentioned, plays an important role in tactics. Watch, or read up on How Hannibal defeated the Roman legionaires, and you will see what I mean. The Fog gave him a surprise advantage, and with fewer troops, took out a larger force.

OK, the whales attacking, I admit, was abit of a stretch. It would give ships a way to gain upto 5xp, like their land unit counterparts.

For the ships attacking inland, a bombard option like civ 3 (maybe a bit stronger) would be better than attacking inland (Unless I misunderstood what you meant?)
The flamethrowers would be cool, maybe sppers too, but ballistas I don't see much use for.
You didn't explain why snipers are needed, but the helicopter I suppose could use an upgrade, as long as everything else upgraded tooo, which could have problems (unless they went next war)
Weather, I believe was mentioned in this thread, if not then another thread, it's too short term for civ, Hannibal didn't have fog for several years, and yes I know about the Carthaginian ambush of the Roman legionaries (what was the name?).

anything that furthers immersion and personalization (is that word?)

make your own flag

make up your own unit for your unique unit within a construct

color choice

hybrid units- (i have a galley- but it has cannons!)

pirating trade

raids that bring results (ie- hit run- got their sheep)

Umm ships can already bombard cities. Just download a mod that's out there that allows them to cause collateral damage to land units upon bombard.

I agree. Removing that kind of bombardment was a step backwards.

That is why I don't like to buy vanilla games any more. Under my point of view that feature should come in the initial package, not in a expansion pack or in a mod.

For me it is like buying Fifa 2010 and finding out that you cannot throw a penalty. Any soccer game is unfinished and faulty without the ability of throwing penalties, and you shouldn't have to wait until a mod 'fixes' it.

I got a great idea to make civ 5 more fun!
All you have to do is...
Not use steam.
Steam will ruin the game
offtopic: You can't throw penaltiesthat I know of...
