I usually play with
- no tech brokering
- no espionage
- no random event
- choose religion

I think the first two should be quite common among civ players as tech trading between AIs are simply outrageous and the espionage system is nothing but a nuisance.

Random events aren't so bad, they don't break or make the game for me, but it kind of screws up the recap at the end of the game. Do I really care to know a "vicious storm torn its way through a Mali city destroying some mines in the year 420 AD"? No, I don't give a damn, leave it out.

I always enables choose religion because it is kind of weird always having Judaism and Hinduism as the dominant religion in every game.

i play on warlord difficulty so ill play against everything, i like fighting raging barbarians when during peace, or when im organizing everyone

I usually just play No Tech Brokering. Sometimes I play No Espionage because it's annoying as hell to have to take money away from science to ramp up espionage slider, and it really seems to add nothing to the game.- Just annoying notices about cottages being destroyed and whatnot. However, if I turn espionage off, then I don;t get the handy power graph. Wish I could get the power graph and still leave espionage off.

Random events and barbarians really don't bother me as much as they do many other posters here.

I just played a game with espionage off, pretty sure you do get power graph, in fact it is free when espionage is off, which you otherwise have to pay for.

I don't mind barbarians, they provide something to kill during peace time. I just wish that barbarians have a "lair" somewhere in the fog of war so we can send armies after them. I don't think they should have cities.

I'm pretty sure I don't get the power graph with Espionage turned off...:( I must be missing out on something.

I like the way that the barbs can found cities in Civ IV rather than just build barbarian camps like in Civ III.

I usually play with No vassals, no tech brokering, raging barbs

What version are you using? I'm running BtS with 3.17 patch and I never get the power graph with espionage turned off.

I like that the barbarians have cities instead of just camps like in Civ 3. Just another interesting element of the game.

Agg AI, Raging Barbs, No Huts, Choose Religion. That's my combo.

Completely default settings here. Contrary to many people, I enjoy random events a lot although many of them are nothing but minor boons or nuisances, although the raging barbarian hordes that do sometimes spawn in the BC's are complete nonsense.
I had a stack of Swordsmen spawn right next to one of my first few cities once, that sucked.

Usually:
No Tech Brokering
Choose Religions
Aggressive AI

Always

No Vassel States
No Tech Brokering
Raging barbs
Aggresive AI
Choose Religons

No Tech Brokering
Either No Barbs or Raging Barbs
Choose Religions
Sometimes I turn off Random Events too

I always have No technology brokering and Permanent alliances, and occasionally Choose religions.

- no tech brokering

-sometimes No barbarians(havent decided yet if me always getting the Great Wall could be considered a bonus for AI losing cities to massive uprisings)
-sometimes Permanent alliances(on higher difficulties this is fun)
