What do Arcologies do in BTS/Next War

I don't have the expansion...could someone shed some light on what they are used for?

They increase , and shielded arcologies protect against nuclear attacks.
They also get bugged and visually appear to cover your city's entire culture radius instead of the city tile, so they look stupidly massive.

Actually the arcology only covers a 3x3 grid, but it only covers the city. It just looks massive
