I wonder how old the oldest player is. Is anyone you know who plays older than 60? This is to everyone. I'm legitimately curious to find out. :)

That's why I'm not so sure. I don't really believe him.

Considering that fed has been around for over a thousand posts and put 1943 in his username...coincident with year of birth for a seventy year old...I find him credible. I'll most likely be playing when I'm 70...eighteen years from now.

Idk, it doesn't matter too much. I guess it is possible. I agree though, I'll be playing civ 4 when civ 15 comes out. :old:

I'd take a guess that they are repelled by the simplicity of the driving mechanism of a thriving civilization as illustrated by this game. It is simplified in such a way that it is way too inaccurate for them (just look how state property and slavery works, for example). Just a guess.
That´s probably because the persons in social science see that this methodology is flawed and hence refuse to participate.

I should know, I´m studying Sociology with a minor in law, although I´ll switch to history next semester.

Some degree of abstraction is always present in games, true. Now you have me wondering: do soldiers like to play Call of Duty? Do civil engineers like to play SimCity? There are probably a dozen such questions. Don't know if anyone has studied it.

Engineer, yes, but Great Engineer is a bit of stretch. I'm more interested in failure analysis atm, so I won't be hurrying wonders or anything like that. Maybe develop a new material or something like that someday. THEN I'll be great. :D

Materials science is one of the fast-growing fields in engineering. They are one of those always-useful anchors on projects, kinda like chemical and mechanical guys.

I minored in history in college, does that count? :p

Same here! :high5:

I'm a little surprised, based on the strategic depth of our game, that there aren't more military folks posting... Oh, for the record, I listed myself as 'other' - just couldn't bring myself to put the 'government worker' tag on me!

But you are/were!

I am 70 years old, but I don't know if I'm the oldest.

You are likely oldest. A few guys over in OT are in their 40s and 50s, and I think MobBoss was in his 60s but he's no longer active. We've had a few age polls and I don't think anyone reported over 70.

Anti, I do recall one of the people that we never see around anymore being over 70, but I can't recall who it was. Hopefully, they only switched to Civ5 and not left us entirely.

You forgot to include attending College. :p

when I made the poll I didn't think anyone under 18 would be playing Civ, as I observed the age at this forum are very mature.

college student should just use their current major as the deciding factor for choosing the option.

as for a professor, I wonder which you picked?

At least @Olfart told us he is about 70y old in some thread. I just had birthday and I'm 16 now. Couldn't vote in this poll either :p!

I consider myself to be quite mature for my young age. I am quite possibly one of the youngest here. The civilization fan base (for the most part) is cordial at the least. Considering rough people who are more into bashing things (although it is fun :p) aren't going to play a game based off of ancient history, most here will be polite and relatively mature.

That's exactly why I couldn't exactly vote in the poll. I did vote in the poll though, voted other because there were sorta multiple categories that my future dream job would fit in. Which would be a Forensic Anthropologist.

A lot of the people I play with are around 14 - 17. Then again, I'm playing with friends I've met through other games on Steam like Garry's Mod, and that really has a younger player base. Most younger players aren't big enough fans of the game to go to the extent of joining a forum dedicated to the game.

I'm the wierdest person ever. On the outside I'm a major athlete (soccer, forget football ) but on the inside im a complete nerd and I love it. History has been my favorite subject sine 3rd grade, I would get books specifically for history. I fell in love with civ 4 vanilla when I was like 10 or so.:king::D I've been on this forum for years, just looking around, I finaly joined last week. :)

So does being a young CaterpillarKing mean that eventually you will be a ButterflyMonarch?
