I bet most of you have had some of these games... You are a bit in to the industrial age. You are a power house along with an additional 2-3 other civs. Wars a raging. The AI takes several minutes to complete all its moves.

What do you when you are waiting? Sit and watch? Cook food? Work out? Plan your next turn? Just curious here. :)

I hit the all your base key and browse the web or chgat with friends while my turn loads. Besides, its my processor thats maxed not my ram so its not too big an issue.

Sorry my 2.6Gg Athlon doesn't take long to go throw turns.
If I'm playing a pbem and I'm wating for the next turn then I'll browse through here or play another game whilst waiting

I have a 1.7 ghz intel and it does not take all that long. I have animate~all off. But there is a 30 second period(at most) where I am waiting and I will get up and walk around or watch the movement of other units. Maybe think about my next move.

I give my googly eyes a rest !!! Usually I play long sessions, and since I'm at school in front of a monitor all day, as I'm in computer programming, anything to rest my poor eyes for a minute or so is welcome. Currently I'm running a p4 2.4 and 256 Meg Ram, so I don't have to wait long at all.

My poor eyes !!!! And no, I don't have bad vision, try staring at a monitor for 5 hours straight everyday (except weekends of course, when civ makes it 10 or 15 :) ) and then coming home and playing for 3-6 hours. Your eyes surely do take a beating.

I do the dishes for my wife, even though it takes about five turns to get them all done. Otherwise, I read or sneak onto my wife's nearby computer and play Bejeweled or surf the web.
I think I need a life....

You scare me.

Nothing can prompt me to do housework.

Other than knowing I have company coming or the random burst of energy that causes me to clean for 6 hours straight without stopping without even noticing what I'm doing until I need to pass out.

I've got a fairly fast computer, and only play on Standard size maps... The turns go pretty quick :) (but when i played civ on my old pc, then I did my homework inbetween turns :mischief: )

I usually just surf the net while waiting for the AIs to finish their moves.

Hello

For the size of maps i play , it is not too long before the turn is ending .
But when i had to wait , it is very common that i read a newspaper in the same time i play :)

i usally dont have to wait that long but if i do i sit there staring, staring, staring,... but sometimes i plan my next move.

Well, I'm a warmonger, so I don't generally have any other civilizations close to me that I need to pay any attention to, so it doesn't take long at all.

hmmm, yeah I see you all have your solutions

To speed up things you can set your units and AI units movement to fast (without the animations) This should cut down waiting time! Especially on large maps, with many players and lot's of unit's!

Couldn't open civ3 right now (at work :mischief: ) so I can't give you the exact menu option right now. . Maybe somebody could check it out? :help:

The happier I keep the wife, the more CIV III I get to play! ;)

See, all I have to do is offer to play MP with my roomate and he's happy. :D

Of course, he's just happy that we finally have a game that I like to play that we can play together. :p

Perhaps you should upgrade, or buy a new PC. You know you're going to buy a new one soon anyways, so what better excuse then to buy one for Civ. The trade off in lower annoyance and frustration will be well worth it.
