Almost always the Civ music, especially in the Modern age. Though it like all the others it gets repetitive.

And I definatly gotta have Sportcenter or The Simpsons playing in the background:D

Vivaldi - the four seasons

Must admit: never listened to the music supplied with the game. Is it any good?

I voted "nothing", but that just means I don't hear that much when I'm playing

Usually something is always playing, during the day it's usually the radio (StuBru for any Belgians here) and in the evenings the TV is on most of the time.

My headphones are always plugged in, so the Civ music and sound effects can also be heard way in the background.

Since my better half also doesn't like me playing civ, I could have easily gone for option 4 :crazyeye: . This leaves out my own music and this doesn't happen very often, but I like Nick Cave, PJ Harvey, Sheryl Crow, Tori Amos and the likes. I've seen Bob Dylan mentioned, well, he's also one of my favorites!

I like to listen to a variety of music. Right now I'm playing the Foo Fighters to death, Other times it the Corrs or my All-time fav band Midnight oil.
Occasionaly I get a bit......ummm... restless and like to listen to something a bit mellower like, Corelli or classical guitar etc.
Sometimes I put the LOTR soundtrack on or a CD of early music (Pre-rennaisance).
I have very varied tastes as you can tell.

I keep the default music on, but in my mind, the 1812 Overature and Gary Owen are playing, and sometimes the Immigrant Song.

The game music. It does get a little tedious, but not to the point where I can't listen to it. Thats how I gauge when I need to stop. If I pay more attention to the music then the game, I take a break
:band:

I fire up iTunes and put it on shuffle. If something spoils the mood, I switch to classical only - can't go wrong there.
But I leave the game SFX on, about half volume, so i can still hear the crunch of the artillery...

Actually, that was Civ 2 that had the crunch. The artillery sound was much better. I must go and mod...

I listen to the in-game soundtrack. I only got it Thursday, so it' not monotonous to me yet, although early industrial is highly annoying, made more so by the fact that I had to pay in gold to get it. Bleh..

I listen to lots of different music while playing civ. Usually whatever strikes my fancy.

Eg: Tori Amos, Pixies, Concrete Blonde, Sisters of Mercy, Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, Garbage, Flaming Lips, Nirvana, Corrosion of Conformity... Just about anything I happen to think is good music.

I voted original civ3 music.

at times I start up windows media player to do some other music - set to random....

I especially enjoy playing Miles Davis,Herbie Hancock or Nils Petter Molvaer in the modern age, other than that I go for classical music

On a side note:

At a time I decided that I would convert the original civ2 music to mp3 and play that...but my "best of infogrames" version of civ2 unfortunately has no music....and I am quite ready to send an email to atari support or something like that to get my civ2 music.
Ok - so I bought the cd in a cheaper package, and without the cool spreadsheet (my 1st copy being wrecked by a friend by accident), but I think buying a "best of" version of the game should entitle me to get all the stuff that came with the original release....

Edited to include examples of music ;)

I'll turn down the music, listen to the civ3 sound effects while listening to the radio. mainly talk radio.

I just listen to whatever music I'm in the mood for at the time. However, I do recommend a CD if you want to make it part of the game...

If you ever play as the Iroquois, put on this CD - Robbie Robertson, "Music for the Native Americans". It fits in perfectly as a soundtrack, kinda.

The other day, I decided to listen to something very different then normal while playing Civ. The CD is called Sabattum. It is a collection of Black Sabbath songs done by a band who use Medieval instruments and sing in Latin. :D

I listen to rock music when I wanna be a warmonger...soft rock if I wanna be a builder

I propose the PWEI ( Pop Will Eat Itself ) cover or Peter Gabriel's " Games Without Frontiers "

Can you substitue music files ( MP3 ? ) for the games music. The game music really chews.
