Hi,

Here is my dotmap. What do you think of my empire plan? It is a lot looser than I usualy play, but I thought with a big island like this I may as well fill it to OCN. Is there much point in building more, Perhaps just do ICS on the penisula at the bottom

C3C 1.22 arcepelego, normal water, age and everything. Standard map, 4 opponents, Byzantines, Deity. No barbs or huts.

Peninsula

22 cities, with 2 on the tudra penisula, not one on the beavers, 1 at the bottom with the jungle dyes. The OCN with the Forbiden palace on standard map is 24 (16 * 1.5 ?) I think? That leaves 2 cities under OCN that I could build on the far penisula. I could build 7 reasonble cities on the penisula, and I may get that one tile island of the bottom (Vikings are not in this game).

The penisula going off the bottom of the picture going of towards the Americans and the Maya, with no resorces beyond the dyes you can just see, but with anothe nice pinch point. I hope you can read Fish above Caesarea and Wales (whales ;) ) .

I am putting a city somewhere in the tundra just to stop an AI getting it.

I am not sure about the city below Nicaea, it would have very little food and increase the rank corruption of a whole load of citys.

I do not think I can afford to protect a city near the furs (beavers) at the moment, Though it would be a prime city site. The effort involved to secure a city over water is significant.

Thanks for any comments. I hope the immage displays in the page, rather than as a link, but if it does not I cannot work out how to do otherwise.

[EDIT] My Forbidden palace I thought could got one the F (near the cows on the south spur). Any comments on that placement are also apperitiated.

Sorry, that is the way I do them. I just pick a colour that is not nearby and draw with that. I forgot to mention that I moved one f the cities, the one I put a black line over. MS paint is so rubish.

MSPaint sucks. ;)

WackenOpenAir: please critique the city placement, not his drawing skills.

Personally, I don't plan quite that far ahead in that detail. The AI civs seem to mess up my carefully laid plans if I do so. :) But I think, in general it looks pretty good. I'm not sure of the order you were planning to settle them. My style would go for a slightly *looser* build in some areas. Then again, that would also depend on the difficulty level. Just be prepared when the AI decides to settle on some of your prime sites! ;)

I am not quite sure of the order either. I think I shall settle them sort of in the order closest to the capital first. I want to get get the FP city set ASAP. I should have horsemen soon so I should be able to protect a big area.

I normally go for a 12 tiles per city build, as most has happened by the IA. I just thought I would try and fit it about the OCN with FP number of cities.

Yeah, I know the AI will come along, but if they put a city of my dot map I will just raze it. I normally raize and replace because I have much lower culture than the AI.

You are very far behind the AI. You have 4 cities at 1400 BC which is not good at all. Very early in the game I just plop cities like so:

C x x C

This way all cities will have 8+ workable tiles. This is more than enough until way later in the game when the population reaches 12 or higher. Also with 3 moves from one city to another all troops can easily manuver around the empire when its fully roaded.

I used to try for OCP but it wastes far too many tiles and turns.

You should also have alteast 1 worker per city by the time you have 6-8+ cities and make sure that the # of worked tiles stays ahead of the populations so that your citizens are maximizing production.

Here is a map as it is now.

I only had 2 squares that could produce 3 food. I have a settler factory on each, but that is only an 8 turn one. The capital in a 10 turn settler and horseman factory. I considered it more important to get the settlers out there than get more workers. I had the settler facorys fully improved soon after the last pic.

I normally do roughly cxxc, judging to get 12 tiles per city. As I had a large island, I thought it better to fill it at about OCN than fill half of it at 12 tile per city.

Thanks everyone for you input.

[EDIT] And now this one is put in as a picture, I do not know why the others were not.

You actually aren't doing too bad. The island isn't actually set up very good. I don't like the lack of bonus resources for food at all. Plus lots of tundra and desert..

One major problem is that you're building Aqueducts in Varna and Nicaea when neither city is producing enough food to grow, anyway. You should instead either skim off Workers or irrigate more Plains to allow growth.

Actually they both have enough food to grow, but he's in Anarchy so he probably needs a specialist there.
