Were you playing it on a CRT monitor by any chance?
I've tried it on two different computers and both have the issue. However, both are connected to (different) LCD screens. I read on one forum that the in-game text looks okay on a CRT. Also, a lot of people are saying this issue only began for them after patching to 1.4. I'm new to the game so I'd have no comparison to make.
Anybody else here had the blurry text issue? It's only the text in the game itself, not on the starting menus. City names on the map are the blurriest of all.

Nope, 22" LCD at 1680x1050.

I really like Empire total war, even more so than Napoleon, I love the scope and range of the game. There's nothing quite like fighting wars from India to America!
That being said I should probably specify that I like the IDEA of Empire: total war, because the execution by CA was piss poor. The bugs/crashes are endless, and the AI is as bad as its been in Total War (which says A LOT).
