If they were a counter, they'd have a bonus vs archers, which they don't. therefore, they also get slaughtered

I leave England alone in the Middle ages, unless I have no one else to attack (and am playing for a domination win).

I really like the change plus the boost to crossbows, it makes combat more interesting and varied with more units being worth building. That fun mix of combat still collapses at cannons and rifles though IMO, then re-emerges with the new and improved tanks and nerf to mech infantry.

Longbows are nasty now for sure. Next time pick England so they can't torture you

Yeah well, melee combat units do tend to get their butts handed to them in real life, so don't complain too much.
