I went through all the trouble of reinstalling Kazaa and now it refuses to finish connecting, so Im giving up on it. Can you tell me what other good p2p type things are out there that I could try?

I know, the spyware is horrible. I decided to grin and bear it for a little while because theres just one specific thing I want to d/l. You can only get mp3's with kazaa lite right? Anyway, it might not connect for me, like the regular kazaa.

I'm not sure what you can get w/kazaa lite as I myself don't use p2p stuff like that.

ok Im d/ling gnutella, Ive heard of it. DC++ looks too new, they probably dont have too many people on it yet.

Try Limewire. I believe it started off for Macs but you can get it for Windows and works pretty well. Emule's good but it forces me to upload if I want to increase my download speeds and I really don't want to slow down my connection or get a call from my isp.

kazaa immediately installed 161 spyware things on my computer:lol: Watch me end up with a virus. All I wanted was an old game (that I bought years ago and lost the cd, its true dammit), a dumb reason to screw up your computer.

edit: sorry for posting it here instead of the computer forum, but I wanted some quick answers.

yeah DP, I downloaded oregon trail off kazaa because my disk was corrupted from age and dirtiness. Too much spyware and malware.

I wish I was anal retentive enough to take care of cd's, but they always either end up scratched, lost, snapped in two or covered with coffee cup rings.

kazaa and gnutella are crap IMHO. if you have linux mldonkey works like a charm. otherwise you might want to take a look at bittorrent.

oh and I almost forgot: for music Soulseek is quite good (just make sure you got to http://www.slsknet.org and not "www.slsk.org" which wants to install a dialer

Btw, don't misunderestimate DC++, if you share enough it turns out A LOT better than Kazaa and all the others. I've always found what I was looking for, and at a connection that matched my own to get maximum speeds (I've downloaded at 16MB/sec...).

I have fond memories of DC++ as it had a network server... 10mps downloads... Now I just need to find some new decent servers.

It sure is. Im never installing it again. I think Im pretty much done with file sharing networks completely.

You know the P2P, update manager and peer point manager it installs? Even after you uninstall Kazaa they remain. You have to go into msconfig to shut them off.

Living proof that kazaa is bad for your computer!

Time to post this picture again. Two year old computer. First scan.  Note Kazaa on the desktop. ;)

Am currently banned from running either spy bot or adaware on that computer. So I installed spyblaster on it. :mischief: Hopefully he won't discover it. :D

No kidding, I just found out about spyblaster and made a new thread about it in the computer talk forum.:)

EDIT: I just noticed that you have weatherbug on that computer, its got spyware too:vomit: I would delete it, but my parents like it and won't let me :(

If you don't like Kazaa, use Kazaa Lite K++. It's Kazaa, but without the spyware. I use it, run Ad-Aware once or twice a week, and get less than 5 spyware. Usually only 2 or 3. :)
