Wish I could vote for more than one. In favor of new mechanics but not before fixing diplomacy(revamp IMO), AI fixing etc.

Improve Diplomatic AI.

Dont let it make his decissions by numbers So you get random decleration of wars...

In my current game I know 14 of 22 civs, of those 14, 11 are at war with me, which very is unrealistic and stupid. The real funny thing is that it is only the Middle Ages. So yeah, for the upteenth time Firaxis, please do something about the games AI system. I am getting to the point, where I am just going to play another game, maybe EUIII for awhile, until stuff in CiV gets fixed.

1.) The game needs a complete revamp of the diplomatic system. Talk to some Historians and take what they say into consideration. This warmonger status needs to be eliminated. Diplomacy just makes no sense. I have had most civs declare war on me, many who have no true direct contact, and many of whom I am no direct threat. These DOWs have no face value, they are meaningless and stupid, and it makes the AI look dumb, because it does the same stupid decision making process with each civ in turn, and that is to declare war for no real reason. In my game, I have declared war twice with the same civ, and took over one city state for iron, otherwise I was doomed. Far, far, less beligerent than the AI civs have been to each other, and to me. It seems it is ok for the AI civs to dogpile each other, and have countless wars, which they do, but if the human player tries it, he is the warmonger, the bad guy! Come on, it is absolutely ridiculous. Diplomacy needs to change. I am getting sick of spending money on a game that never gets fixed.

2.) The AI is better at tactical warfare, from where it used to be. I have even seen it support each other with ships. Spanish triremes are on station supporting Greek triremes, something I have not seen before. I moved one of my ships and the fog of war lifted, and I realized my ship was now outgunned four to one. That was interesting, and I hope the AI obliterates my ship, but I had to sacrifice it to see what was hidden out there. The AI should be better at capturing cities, and be better, much better at amphib operations, using correct tactics, and escort vessels.

3.) There should be some new game mechanics added to give the game more depth. Right now, it is only interesting for me to play a domination victory setting, all the other victory conditions are boring. I feel a conquest victory should be added, or some military mission victories. For instance, if you conquer so many civs in so many turns you win. IDK something interesting. As far as game mechanics, I feel espionage, religion, or some things similar should be tried out to see how they play out. Diplomacy, and AI has to come first, so they work properly, before any more things are added. If the AI cannot handle what it has on its plate already, how is it supposed to deal with more?

What do you think Firaxis should do FIRST ?

Voted for Add content. I would like to get new Civs, Wonders, etc. first to keep the interest alive for playing the game. Second important for me would be Improve Tactical (combat) AI and third Improve Diplomatic AI. After that major balance changes and only after those add new mechanics. I don't care about multiplayer because I don't play MP games. But would like to see it fixed because the game was advertised to have multiplayer.

just came out of a game where i was outnumbered, but still manage to pull out of it with the help of 13 iron sources. the 1st wave of the AI's army is fun, but once thats down, there isnt a next wave. the AI needs to learn how to consolidate its forces for a 2nd attack wave.

Homeland AI needs to be fixed too. too many time i see AI not improving its tiles from 1 pop to 6pop, now thats just sad. if they had done so, they would have been able to make better cities and produce so much more.

i loved civ4 AI, at least SOD comes in waves and each is substantial, but im hooked on civ5 interaface, graphics and gameplay.

Improve Diplomatic AI. But i don´t think that will happen. And im starting to get used to the AI being all irrational and stupid, since it gives me the more reason to DESTROY THEM ALL!:) They are apparently subhuman hehe:)

I voted for Diplomatic AI as well. There's nothing like the frustrating feeling you get when you realize that in most situations, there's nothing you can do to prevent them from randomly declaring war on you.

There were several occasions that I was reloading games 15-20 turns before the said declaration of said AI, trying a bunch of different things, like bribing them and/or building a strong army so they might back off, but to no avail. If they decide that they want to attack you on turn X, then they will do it, no matter what.

Of course, the problem exists with "AI to AI" relations as well. Just see your Global Politics screen on turn 120 and beyond. It's full of wars and denouncements. Almost like everyone's for himself out there.

i'd like to see a decent diplomacy like in SMAC (Alpha Centauri) do you remember that? it was 1999...12 years ago and that's still one of the best game ever made!
i think they should add a sort of planetary council avaible with a wonder(league of nations?UN?) or anything else!

I think it's most important to focus on improving diplomatic AI. But the other things can be done (if partially) at the same time. I would definitely like to see some of the multiplayer fixes you've mentioned implemented (I, too, wish the animations were available in multiplayer games).

I'm certainly glad to see the diplomatic AI getting fixed is in a big lead here. I hope the developers are reading this. :)

I know it is giving me a god damn headache and it is GETTING OLD FAST! FIX THE AI FIRAXIS. I am sick of being DOWED on 11 to 1. Although because the AI is truly stupid they cannot defeat me, it just gets boring. This game has a great interface, it is user friendly, has 1UPT. It has so much potential, except that the designers just cannot or will not, or do not understand how to make it fun. ARGHH!!!!!

I am going to go with AI diplomacy, AI Tactics...

Get those fixed first.

I went with Tactical AI. I don't think the Diplo AI has as much of an effect. Because combat is bad, I know I can not bother with units for at least 30 turns and just build Stonehenge and Settlers and Workers. About that time, someone attacks with lots of warriors but I can still beat them with absolute ease. I don't mind that they attacked, 'cause Civ is largely a war game, fighting is what it's about. I mind that they attacked in a bad way.

Diplo does need improvement tho. No-one being friends by endgame is very stupid. Also I'd like to see closer cooperation between the AI. Like, if two biggish civs are warring and I invade them both, they don't make peace to deal with the threat, they carry on wasting themselves on each other.

New content is very fun but lower-priority.

Wouldn't like the mechanics to change.

I don't do multiplayer.

I'd be interested in slowing down science and culture but speeding production and gold and stuff, so you can play a bigger game earlier in history. Idk if this counts as balance changes... :/

Actually it does it makes the game different from a real time strategy game or other turn based strategy game...

Not it just look likes a wargame where if you want diplomacy you need to pick teams in the gamesetup.....

This is about building up your empire so building up relations with you"re neigbours are a part of it...

I want better Diplomatic AI of course.
Alexander is attacking one of my cities (KIng difficulty) for 100 turns and he lost like 50 units he didn't conquer it and didn't even kill one unit of mine and he still doesn't come to his sences to ask for peace and try to go somewhere else to make war. I have to wipe out his army, conquer 4-5 of his cities for him to understand that it is time for peace.
Don't even get me started on stupid AI that is your VERY close friend for 300 turns and then declare war on you for no good reason. :shake:

I reallz iss the old Civ IV mechanics, and the one I iss most is Vassalage. It prevented the AIs from just growing larger and larger, instead having some Vassals. IMO that reduced their army and research quite a bit in coparison to the complete conquer...
And religion was just nice< having a basis on wether or not being friends with them was a good or bad idea :)

Diplo AI for me, its the one thing that I loved about civ 4 no matter how much better it could have been. I have started my first game since the patch and currently have a DOF with 3 civs that all have DOF with each other, am at 1000AD and no problems yet.......im waiting for the imminent DOW dog pile though........have plenty of troops waiting!!

I miss random events from Civ4. But it would be cool to see it more varied in both severity, type and frequency. With an option to disable this, could only be an enhancement.
