I've read the pedia entry on Malus from Age of Ice, but I don't get it... pardon my lack of intelligence. It was quite weird. Could someone explain it to me? What really happened on that ship, and what is this secret Malus is guarding?
The secret is that Nikis-Knight managed to sneak the story of an undead canabalistic pirate into a game rated E for everyone.
Seriously the secret is that Malus killed and consumed his crew before dying himself. He is now an undead spirit eternally trapped with the remains of his ship and cursed for his actions.
I've sometimes wondered as to whether Malus might be the captain of the Sailor's Dirge, but I don't have anything to back up that theory.
Otherwise, I figure that the fact that we were pretty much forced to defeat him in AoI would mean that he isn't still around. Drifa often died in AoI too, but we weren't really meant to kill her so having her still alive in FfH makes more sense.
Wouldn't killing Drifa just be banishing her to Mulcarn's vault? That also brings up the question of Tanaris and what exactly happened to him (I have some ideas for him [and maybe even the Illians in general ]).

Well, as long as his lake is filled, I guess he couldn't leave his island, because he would be eternally drowning, wouldn't he? So I guess he'd still be on his island, leting time flit by after all:
That is not dead which can eternal lie,
And with strange aeons even death may die.
You actually don't even need that, if memory serves. One of the Marks allows you to summon a 3-move floating eye, which happens to be enough movement to reach the volcano with the Godslayer piece from shore and pull it out, triggering the eruption that unblocks the land route. That's actually what happened the first time I played AoI, and I didn't spot Malus until I went hunting for the Stag.
