What exactly happens when continuing Civ3 or PTW game in Conquests?

I was continuing a PTW game with a friend after we both updated to conquests. I wasn't sure if the rules would remain as PTW or if they would be updated to Conquests.... I noticed a couple of things "Ironclads" technology was not on the tech tree but the little arrow for it was there. So I thought it must be PTW rules. Then I got a military leader, and could not use him to build a wonder. It seems that at least some of the new conquests rules come in to play. I am anxious to see if Lethal Bombardments will work. Has anyone figured this out?

I only know that if you are still playing PTW PBEM games. Just still play them using PTW and save them in PTW. Unless you're sure that the other players have conquests. You could always create a back up of the save file. And try to play it in C3C and if it doesn't work then just use the back up in PTW.
