The Annoyoance Factor. That part in the game where its not hard but it just takes TOO long and becomes Tedious to the point were you get so annoyed with the game that you shut it off and say you will do that part latter.

One example is FFIX in that underground desert palace were I got though it but my freind ended up shuting off the game a year ago at that point and never played it again because if he did play it he would have to go through that annoying level.
In fact I think FFIX has a VERY high annoyance factor, because I have had it for one or two years now and I still have not beat it. mainly BECAUSE of its high annoyance factor.
so what is your game that has a high annoyance factor?

PS:Annoyance factor is a term made up by me to describe games like FFIX

The first Diablo!...back and forth from dungeon to town to constantly replentish stuff.I hated that.

Pretty much anything in Civ3 after pressing "start" ;)

Civ 3...

"Gee, my vet Cavalry was just killed by horsemen! While fortified on a hill!"

Or "The invincible spearman destroys yet another Tank!"

Diablo 2 online on B.net

You run around with a group of ppl and get killed x times by some boss and when you finally beat it some n00b (sorc) who just stood there and didn'T do any damage and didn't die either just graps all the good stuff.

Annoyance factor:

Civ3

Sorry. :)

Do love the game!

Build a city next to (example) iron. Get a worker to build road to the iron. Iron runs out after road is built.

Very annoying.

I never said anything about it being hard ;) I said it gets long tedious and annoying.

Anything with very long cut scenes, especially FF X, Metal Gear 2 (both great games otherwise), Soul Reaver 2 (OK otherwise). Cut scenes are killing gaming, and unfortunately the new, more powerful machines (console and PC) are making things worse. Thank God Civ 3 doesn't have cut scenes (and if any Firaxians read this - UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES EVEN CONTEMPLATE INTRODUCING THEM).

Age of Empires. I just can't play the thing, despite a desire to, because of the annoying RTSness of it. The most annoying part being chasing some goddamn unit across the screen to try and reconnect it with some mob that you're trying to keep as an organized army. Oh, and the sillyness of swordsmen hacking away at a thatched-roof hut to destroy it is pretty annoying, too.

  • Agreed.
  • Add FF VII. Some of the puzzles and leveling up was a pain.
  • Load times on PS2, especially the memory card my brother has. It holds 16MB of saves instead of 8MB. But inorder to use it you have to play a special DVD, upside down (it is one of those two sided DVDs) and load the memory card information. Once that is loaded you can then play the game. I would rather have to buy 2 8MB cards than deal with this EVERY time I turn on the PS2. If you don't do it the memory card is NOT found. :)

Use the stand ground function for all your ranged units and then band together your cavalry and foot soldiers into groups and assign a key to each group. This will stop you from losing trooops after they run away. Another good tactic is to use small armies with plenty of trebuchets and castles, as castles tend not to run off...

I agree about long cutscenes. Short ones are fine, especially if well done, but are otherwise a definite nuisance. Also, games that give you absolutely no clue as to what you're supposed to do next. That's why I'm not a big fan of Shadowgate-type games.

Well I think the Cut scenes in FFX would not be a problem if they let us push a button to skip them  I mean I get the Idea of the scene after the third time though
I like them the first, second and mabey even third time but after that they just get stupid.
also games that just have stupid or non sense making saying.
"I fell out of the frying pan and in to the freezer"
Some games need to get some real writers and help reduce stupid corny sayings.
I mean every now and then the characters just state or say the stupidest and most ovious things possible.
"This looks like some kind of device"

In AoE2, you can also assign groups of units to other units.... like set them to "Defensive" and have them protect a Trebuchet. This lets them move, but they won't run away. Move the primary unit (liek the Treb), and the assigned ones will follow (and protect, as enemies come into the LOS). I'm not sure about AoE1 though.

AOE1 didn't have as many features although you could get a long without using the commands becuase all you had to do was sit back and watch the computer continually attack the same piece of wall. In AOK, I like to play without walls except on Black forest because its more interesting organising my forces.

The special effects for conjuring monsters in FF VII. I got tired of watching that after the 100th time....
The amzingly bad story of FF VII.
The bad translation of most Japanese to English games...
I could go on, maybe more tomorrow! :D

Got to be Civ3 - after a certain point, you will just know you'll win. Boring. I hardly ever complete any games beyond that point. Nowadays, out of the ring altogether.

Actually, not even playing any games.... :o

@K-D:
Most strategy games are like that for me, except RTS because they are over so fast anyways.

Another thing: Lack of quality 2-D games. Everything is more and more 3-D. It is not needed!!! :)
