He was Russia's leader in Civ1, now that we have multiple possible leaders per civ, why isn't he back?

I guess this is because there is a limited multiplicity in CIV IV, and you can only have 2 leaders available per civ, not 22. Yes, that must be the reason. :crazyeye:

After all Cath and Pete arejust as good as Stalin, although I think that these leaders are too similar in many aspects, and maybe Cath could have been replaced by let's say Lenin, or Stalin indeed. Although in ths case it would be rather funny for Stalin to have a cossac as a UU. I'd rather think about so called "politrucks", or special political officers, that stacked with other military units would have increased their combat stats. But then again, Pete and "politruks"?

He was the man in Civ1 ! Always attacked immediately and took over masses of land. A lot of fun, basically.

so what about Adolf... Adolf Hitler has won diplomacy victory... ?... mm or maby he should be great prophet... and appear only in cities that founded judaism :D

eaven better idea would be to put current politicians into game... like dubbya, blair, putin, grat fun if then those personalities would ironize bout their prototypes

when did civ 1 come out again? more importantly when did it begin devolpment? There would be no way the ussr would of allowed that game to be sold in their countrys without him(the few that had the money and a comp anyway) Even if it wasn't the reason, He was still fresh in the worlds mind at that time.

I dont really care if he is "in" or not, as long as the byzantines get back in.

p.s. St. Mikael, THAT'S my avatar!!

Well, earlier this week President Putin signed an order confirming the right of cossack formations to do the following:

1) Guard the borders
2) Safeguard the public peace
3) Ensure state, fire, border and ecological safety (I kid you not!)

and most importantly,

FIGHT TERRORISM! :D

So Cossacks are still well and alive to the present day.

Nowadays cossacks are no more than just a sound and have almost nothing similar to the ones depicted in the game, except that they live in the region where authentic cossacs had lived and wear threads resembling those originally worn by cossacs. They are just a pretentious decoration in Russia today, that's all.

Well,
they also fought in WW2,
but on the side of Germany and not russia,
because they hated the communists :D
There were whole cossack regiments of the Red army which flipped sides because of this.
At he end of the war, most cossack formations surrendered themselves (and often also their families) to the american and british troops (knowing what would await them if they got in the hands of stalin).
But to no avail. During the post war times lots of them (more than 100.000) were handed over to the sowjets and much of them ended either executed or dying in the Gulags.

So, well, maybe we could implement it like this:
Stalin is able to build cossacks. But if they ever, in case of a war, enter the cultural borders of the enemy civilization, they instantly flip sides :D

I believe that he was smothered by a pillow

To have political officers as speciel UU would be fun, so if your ordinary military units would retreat during an attack they would execute them, thats good fore the morale.

Lenin would be good... he wasn't in any previous Civ games either, which is odd. While a bit controversial, he wouldn't be anywhere like Stalin in terms of controversy and considering Genghis Kahn and the like in the game he would seem a fair choice...

Actually, Lenin was one of the leaders in Civ2. I think adding either lenin or stalin would be a good idea. Both Catherine and Peter are from the imperial age of russia so it would be good to have someone from the communist era as well.

Of course Stalin could have been able to use cossacs, as well as Putin could use them now. The only question is what for could he use them? As you pointed out their combat value would be far from high under Stalin, and therefore putting them as a UU for Stalin would be really dumb.

I don't think the german folks would appreciate that. Besides, Hitler was Austrian and does not depict german culture properly.

"What happened to Stalin?"

Nothing happened to Stalin. Are you kidding me?

Stalin is holed up in a command bunker buried deep beneath the Urals, where he is an integral part of a three-man team originally dispatched to oversee Earth and prepare it for the Groloid occupation in 2243 AD. They are able to affect global change through a complex system of spies and secret organizations that all tie, albeit loosely, back to Raman-Sha, a mystic from the ethereal realm of Phym (pronounced feem), who originally formed on Earth .

"What happened to Stalin?" He got really, really high. That's what happened. It was his 127th birthday two days ago. You can't blame him. he's only human. Jerry Garcia basically took over the 7-th sublevel and turned it into a "grow room."

The last two days seem hectic to you? That's because the men who are supposed to be ruling the world, Stalin, Vince Lombardi, and Biggles, were smoking Gottis all day on the 6th.

I would be remiss not to mention that Jerry Garcia does NOT participate in the decision making process. He is the translator between Stalin, Lombardi, Biggles and the Groloid commander in charge of the mission.

"What happened to Stalin?"
Ha!
