What I'd like to see in Faal From Heaven

I made a thread like this before Civ IV, and I felt like Firaxis listened, so here is what I'd like to see in Fall From Heaven

1. Arcanus and Myrror/Overworld and Underworld and randomly generated dungeon maps, (duh), but not necessarily just underground, have some portal to other planes, or perhaps inside ancient castles.
2. If your units get enchanted blades, I wanna see their blades glow! If your units get mithril armor, I wanna see their helmets and blades reflect likewise. Looking at them on the map, I should have a good idea of how they are equipped, and what spells are protecting them. I'd also like to be able to outfit armies as if they were a character in a RPG. So you can give them full plate, a two handed sword, and amulet of the paladin, and the entire unit would reflect that.
3. I want piles of gems, gold, and silver, maybe even a commodity economy, where food, mana and mithril prices rise and fall based on supply and demand. But I want to see them stockpiled graphically, not just a number and an icon.
4. zoom in on the map, and see little people working, and living their lives. Click on them to get an opinion or weather report
5. Night, day, rain, snow
6. Army mechanics, Mix em up have armies made of frontline swordsmen and backline archers, or frontline pikemen and back line cavalry, or frontline werewolves and backline gryphons... and maybe every unit get a commander, who can be equipped with special equipment, I mean everyone in a unit can have mithril swords, but only one person can hold the netherblade.
7. Overland spells. Earthquakes, tornadoes, plagues and the dreaded great wasting :D
8. Heros, artificing, and custom races/leaders.
9. Mixed race mechanics, so cities can have elves and dwarves living side by side... and rioting!
10. Charging, flanking, and backstabbing
11. ninjas (I know it'll never happen, but I love them anyways. :p )

What I would like:

1. Interesting setting (granted)
2. Technologies, buildings and city management like in Civilisation
3. Combat system like in Master of Magic - combat mini-map, please :)
4. Spells like in Heroes of Might and Magic, leader and civilisation building like in Master of Magic & Master of Orion
5. AI that understands and uses ALL options
6. Advanced diplomacy with all kind of agreements

it would be a game taken from my dreams

Neomega, the majority of your suggestions presuppose that the standalone game will be a strategy game in the same vein as Civilization.

Yes, that's what I'd like to see

Hell, it could be one of the new style "FPS-RPG" games, using an archer or a mage. :p

And I wouldn't buy it if it was. :p

I don't think that's a safe assumption. We have no idea what type of game it will be... But the only way I see it being like civilization, would be if Firaxis was helping develop it. Otherwise, I'd see 2K's legal department going insane.

I also think that saying you wouldn't buy it is unfair; We DO know the setting is awesome, and I have faith in Kael's ability to produce an amazing game.

It's not an assumption, it's a preference. "that's what I'd like to see"

Firaxis has absolutely no monopoly on turn based games. Firaxis has never even made a fantasy TBS, that was Simtex and/or Microprose, IIRC.

D&D is awesome too, but I am not buying any of those types of games any more. I don't care to play them.

I am aware that Firaxis does not (and notice I said 2K, not Firaxis. :p). My point is more... FfH2 is a Civilization4 mod. It is built using mechanics proprietary to Firaxis; Any new strategy game built in the same world can generally be assumed to use some of those same mechanics, which would likely not go over well.

There is a reason it can be difficult to go from Mod to Game. Those that manage the conversion successfully generally either were based on a game with an open-source engine, or had support from the original game's developer. In this case, only the second would be likely.

If you notice, I didn't really stress anything that would need to be civ engine specific. ANd I think the chances of FFH being a Turn based game are high, because it is what kael has a lot of experience in now. Note that Sid Meier himself tends to focus on TBS games.

I did notice. But they did assume something similar to FfH2, which would need certain things that may or may not be civ engine specific. Which was my point. :p

Also, keep in mind that turn based is far wider than TBS. And strategy is also a very wide spectrum of possible game types.

Personally, I would hope for a strategy game of some kind. But I do not count on a game anything like FfH2.

If that's your perception. I disagree.

Im not into any other type. I played RTS for a while, I play an RPG every now and then, but FFH has me addicted like crazy, and it's not the storyline and lore. ;)

My personal preference would be for something akin to a Spellforce-FfH2 hybrid. Keep the turn-based (please) but allow a bit more "adventuring" into the mix. As in, being freed from the Civ engine shackles could allow for better implementation of dungeons, improved hero mechanics, etc. On the other hand, trying to go down too many roads at once with the design is an almost certain recipe for failure.

Just please please don't make a shooter, Kael. That's the one genre I just plain don't like and I won't be able to hand you some nice green stuff when the new game comes out! ;)

Heh. To be honest, were *I* to make a game (and not necessarily FfH, or even likely; Just listing my personal preference, here), it would be either a turn-based strategy, or a FPS-RPG (think Fallout3, if you aren't sure what I mean).

Either way, it would be in a steampunk-arcane setting. I have the kernel of the idea, will probably end up expanding it.

I'd like to see something turn based, but maybe on a smaller, more personal scale. Heroes and lore are one of the great hallmarks of this mod. Being able to explore those in depth would be excellent.
I guess I'm hoping for something like Final Fantasy Tactics, but with larger maps and more units. Something that tells a cohesive story in the continuing world of FFH.

That would definitely be an interesting way to take it.

I would like an AI strong enough not to need all sorts of extra bonuses. I'd like the AI to make use of navies; invading, blockading and raiding. I'd like an AI that after invading a territory moved with a plan: raze improvements if an enemy holes up in his cities, capture cities if the odds are reasonable, and coordinate its stacks if possible.

I'd also weather effects and seasons: winters with movement and maintenance penalties, summers with possible droughts, rainy seasons affecting movement. This is an old old wish; I doubt Civ will ever have it...

I wouldn't mind a tactical battle option but I can see reasonable arguments against including it.

Yeah, but if you look at the frustrations with SoD's, it seems to be a good possible workaround. It's either that or 1 unit per tile a la Civ V. (which has me in serious doubt)
