What improvements do YOU want for this mod?

While I would like a less overwhelming list of stuff to build, just adding prerequisites would interfere with the build que.

automatically build "lesser" buildings (those which would have been prereqs) when the higher level building is made?

Just reading the Elohim/Illian gambit thread reminded me of another, which I'm sure I've seen mentioned elsewhere. An increase in the number of rituals.

To be honest, you could even change current things to rituals (such as creating Beast of Agares being changed to a ritual that spawns 4 of them at once at the cost of X population upon ritual completion - same thing we have now, albeit slightly different since it's changed to popping all 4, as opposed to 1 at a time - strikes me that the beasts are more something that you would summon rather than "build" or "train").

I'm sure there's plenty of others that can be put together (either new ones or reworkings of existing creations), remaining thematic with the civs or religions. The rituals section of the civilopedia right now feels a little empty.

Edit: Ooh, and just a quick one off the top of my head. Govannan's train spells affecting all Amurite units within cultural borders, as opposed to just on the tile. That's more of a convience than a change, simply mentioning it to cut down on the micromanaging. You'd still need to cast a fresh batch of train spells as new sets of units are built, but at least it's less tedious than travelling from city to city (or having all your units travel to one city).

It's not empty, but the current rituals are quite situational. In most of your games you don't really have an advantage of Bane Divine, Nature's Revolt, Glory Everlasting, Purge the Unfaithful. Perhaps the existing Rituals should be improved, before you create new ones.
For example animals created by Nature's Revolt could lose the restriction not being able to enter civilized terrain. You could get excluded by the attack of these animals by some way to make this beneficial for you. With all animals getting Heroic Strength and Defense I+II (as it is right now) they would be tough opponents if you built it quite early.

seconded, a no-micromanagement-needed way to use govannon AND terraforming spells would be great.

Well, that's kind of what I meant by "a little empty". As you said, most games you don't use them (Illians aside). I agree with improving some of the current ones, but what I meant was to add more game-to-game rituals rather than just one off. All of the current ones are really one time use, barring the Elohim and Sheam ones (which are civ-locked and specialised to the AC).

The first thing to come to mind was an FoL one that creates some permanent* Treants (maybe based on surrounding forest area, limited to 3-5 per ritual to avoid Elf exploitation).

*(or temporary, 20ish turns or so maybe to make it feasible to build and take advantage of? 3-5 turns is too short for something you "build" in my opinion, but works fine for when you get freebie ones from enemies invading forests)

Edit- Ooh, whilst I'm remembering thingies. Just from other threads that I've seen about:

I agree that lairs and dungeons need to be changed a bit (Thread linky). Being able to be instakilled within the first 40 turns kind of sucks, and by the opposite, being able to found a religion/get a great person that early is pretty overpowered too. Maybe Dungeons/Lairs should "grow" with the game for lack of a better term. The second guy's post sounds along those lines.

And the magical towers should be something worth building even if you aren't going for a Tower victory (Thread Linky).

missile units?

Bows, siege, cannon, etc, you know weapons with a range effect.

I thought you mean something like nuclear missiles in vanilla civ.

I thought you mean something like nuclear missiles in vanilla civ.

Yes i thoughts what you may have been thinking.

I was thinking rather of units that kill from a distance rather than close to combat, and why this in not re produced in game, ie the abilityb to reduce Hps on a unit by attack/bombard them before they close on youn to attack, or decide the odds have changed and dont continue to attack, and you then pepper them again before sending in the close combat specialist unit.

The down side is the micro managemnt when you havea lot of units.

The ocean should be made more interesting. Sea cities arent all that great as they should be because they lack all the hammers and the improvable tiles. Man of wars should be allowed to do ranged bombardment like the one in Dale's Combat mod.

Also, the whole archery line should be better. They should be given ranged bombardment as that was why they were made.

Instead of giving siege high withdraw, i think it should just be given ranged bombardment as well. They should have maybe about 2 strength or something and get captured once defeated. Once the city defences go down, the bombard action should be able to damage units.

Assasins should be changed imo. Right now, mages die so fast because of them. Ussually mages are with other units in an army, and I think its strange that assassins can go to the middle of everything and kill the mage and run away, unless the assassin was Alazkan.

Builder mode should be an option too. Like someone suggested, an improvement like a great wall segment would be great.

We should add more unique features like Finner's Tomb, the Bair of Lacuna, and the Palus.

@ Magister: describe what these look like and what they do and ill try make some graphics for them :p maybe once graphics are avaliable people will be more willing to think up concepts for them (i have no idea what those UFs are supposed to be)

It'd be nice if the Grigori Adventurers had a chance to get random racial promotions when they are born. Maybe the odds could be something like:

60% Human
10% Dwarf
10% Elf
10% Orc
5% Lizardman
2.5% Angel
2.5% Demon

Why just adventurers? This could be cool for any Grigori unit that doesn't already have a racial promotion.

I agree, but only if it would mean that they'd use the appropriate art. If I have an orc adevnturer I would want him to use the Clan/barbarian art.

Well, we don't have a lot of info on them.

Finner was the greatest a human hero at the end of the Age of Dragons. The Godslayer was given to him, perhaps because it was thought that only a mortal as great as him would have any shot at getting close enough to a god who broke the compact to have a chance to use it. The Elohim the the only ones to witness this. I'm not sure, but sometimes I speculate that Finner may have founded Patria and that his reputation as the strongest, wisest, and kindest man in Erebus made it easier for his descendants like Kyorlin (assuming they are related) to expend the kingdom to include all humanity using mostly peaceful means. Kyorlin could never live up to Finner's greatness. I assume that when he died that a marvelous tomb was built for him, but that its exterior looked fairly plain so it would be hard for robbers to find. Only the Elohim knew its location, and they worked very hard to stop various warlords from finding it. I suspect that Finner may have actually been buried with The Godslayer, and perhaps many other relics dating back as far as the Godswar, but that implies that someone may have found and looted his tomb already and taken and broken the Godslayer before Kyorlin started looking for it. It seems to me like Kyorlin might have put the Godslayer back to rest here were it belonged after slaying Mulcarn, so finding it might be needed in order to slay Auric Ascended.

The Blair of Lacuna is a refuge that Ceridwen herself created for Os-Gabella. It was here that she raised Alexis and Flauros. Apparently they were the only mortals there. It was surrounded with rings of Runes to keep the unwelcome from entering from other planes and to keep prisoners from escaping. These same runes were used by Alexis to trap and devour her victims soul in the ritual that would turn her into a vampire. It probably contained great libraries of Ceridwen's arcane knowledge. I suspect that it may have been sort of of pocket dimension or a node where many world met. It would be sort of like the Shadowed Vale in that respect, but it would probably connect Erebus to many worlds instead of just Arawn's Netherworld. Obviously, it would be a source of Dimensional Mana. I'm thinking it could also be nice for it to have an event similar to the Letum Frigus Event that could help the Sheaim or the Calabim. It could be interesting if it would prevent any good civs' units from entering. Perhaps it could also stop summons belonging to anyone but the civ that owns it from moving into/near it (a more selective version of the Fear effect of the Necrototem), and/or strengthen spells cast there. I was thinking it could look nice if it appeared sort of like the Sheaim Palace surrounded by rings of runes.

The Palus is the Tower of the Eyes, which is currently a wonder but since thematically it was built in the Age of Magic seems more appropriate as a unique feature. It was an ancient fortresses founds in the middle of a large unoccupied wilderness. (For some reason I like to think that it was actually the ruins of Kyorlin's old palace from which he once ruled Patria. All that remains intact was very tower from which he tried to jump to his death before Ceridwen stopped him. He brutality of his rule and wanton use of magic would have left the once lush surroundings just about uninhabitable.) After Kyorlin broke the block he had placed in Perpentach's mind so that all the other minds in there could burst out and make concentration for his opponent impossible, thus letting Kyorlin break away from Perpentach's mind control and defeat his old student, he locked him away in this tower. He had a small army of special Golems built and enchanted to guard him, as they would be impervious to mind magic. Perpantach was stuck here until his body was withering with old age, hen his now insane but capable mind managed to reach out to the boarders of the wilderness and take over The Momus, who led his band of Carnies to the Tower and fought the golems. It is implied that the vast majority of the carnies died, but that they were successful enough to get close enough for Perpentach to transfer his mind entirely into the Momus's body and escape. I like to think that the remains of Perpentach's original body are still locked in the tower, and that a few golems may remain to guard it. It would be a source of Mind Magic and an Epic Lair. I'm thinking it could be nice for units that get near it to trigger the last few golems to defend it, and for those who enter it to become Crazed. It would increase a units line of sight more than a normal ancient tower, maybe as much as the Mirror of Heaven. I've just been using the normal Ancient Tower graphics in my version, but something unique could be nice. Something resembling the Orthanc (Sauruman's tower from LotR) could be nice. Perhaps it would actually have a set of giant eyes carved near the top of the tower, maybe 1 in each cardinal direction right below the platform from whcih the dark mage could look out over his ruined kingdom. Actual glowing eyes like the one in the tower in Mordor might be too much.

excelent thanks :) ill work on these and see what i can come up with :D (Ideas are flying already :D)

EDIT:

hows this for a preliminary Blair of Lacuna?

there will be tentacles around the tower as per the sheim palace once i figure out how to make a planes texture double sided.
the runde are in floating circles which i borrowed from the ashen veil mana nodes.
note the runes arnt transparent in this pic, so not very detailed yet.

A tweak: guardsman promo should work as follows. "Ignores marksman promotion of the attacker when selected from the stack."

Why just adventurers? This could be cool for any Grigori unit that doesn't already have a racial promotion.

Wouldn't this fit the Kuriotates better as their agenda is tolerance towards other races?
The Grigori open their borders mainly for religious refugees (which of course is possibly connected with a multicultural society), so I would suggest to give only the heroes a random racial promotion. The Kuriotates on the other hand should get a random racial promotion for every unit (except of course for their mounted units).

Under "What improvements do YOU want?" I guess I could suggest, unless the lore is completely against it, that getting access to werewolves would be nice, even if you happen to lose your shot at the Baron under Feral Bond.

Methods include:
1) Dungeon exploration, think I've heard of though not seen a "side with werewolves" event much like the dwarf vs lizardman. Also though, when "a powerful enemy arises to defend the lair", once in awhile a werewolf would be an interesting boss, maybe one of your rangers could subdue him.

2) Event such as may be tied to wonder ownership (Guild of the Nine), Evil alignment, some Constellation whose focus is more "moon" related to fit a werewolf theme, etc.

3) High end method could be ritual or wonder... maybe something moon themed. Wonder may be a bit much (because it's just another thing to be beaten to, like the Baron), but some ritual that'd call a couple nasty werewolves from the wilds wouldn't be awful. Don't want to mimic Pact of the Nilhorn too badly, but it's just a thought.

4) Another random method is just sprinkle a few among the barbarians. Maybe they pop up late game.

I guess I have a borderline awareness that the Baron and his hordes are a "rubber band mechanic", where a winner of that race will often keep on winning, still, some poor-man substitute might be nice. If I'm too weak on Lore, as to how linked the Baron is with all werewolves, well, so sue me...! Give him something like the old Cult of the Dragon "roar" to convert nearby werewolves, even if they happen to be enemies, that'd solve that.

Just ideas is all, hate finding that some knob, last place civ has somehow beat me to the Baron while I focussed on other sciences, and then uses him for nothing.
