what is the best map settings (normal, wet, arid \warm,temperate,cool

To accomplish what and with what? Just to play, I would stick with the std settings. Cool or Wet makes work for you as you have to deal with all the bad tiles.

There is really no best, persay. Default conditions are probably most routine, but sometimes I'll change mine around if I want some variety or theme. Keep in mind, wet = more jungle = more worker turns to clear said jungle. 3-billion yr old terrain = more hills/mountains = more worker turns to improve said hills/mountains, and less food for growth. Cold = lots of worthless tundra. You'll just have to experiment, find out what you like.

Now, whether you do archipelago/continents/pangea has more of an impact. More large areas of connected land = more land swapping by the AI via war, and at higher levels the AI will settle-spam every corner of the globe in a short frame of time if given the opportunity. I had a recent game where one juggernaut AI wiped out three other civs sharing its continent. Since nobody else had that much extra space around for growth and I, stuck on a distant, worthless, nearly resourcless island, was unable to keep it in check, that civ ran away with the game.

I find it interesting that I used to use the "Wet" setting when I played Vanilla so that I would get more rivers. I did get more rivers and didn't actually get a lot more jungles.

Now with Complete, the "normal" setting is at least 40% jungle/marsh. The problem is that there is nowhere to go. The dry is just too much desert and normal is too much wetlands. I don't even want to know what Wet would be like.

((((sigh))))

I usually use wet/warm/4 billion years and just reject the ugly starts. I hate dry starts with no rivers, I hate tundra, and I hate vast stretches of any terrain, even grass.

yeah... I will say I use warm/wet for the tundra negating effects. So long as I don't get a starting location near the equator, I usually won't find any reason to abandon the game.

the reason i asked is because i figured that wet did good in the begining but later on you need dry for the planes and atomic bombs

Oil also occurs in swamps, so making it wet/warm usually doesn't change the amount of oil, just where it shows up.

Still plenty of desert if you make the world younger (3byo).

Once you get the expansions, you'll never go back. PTW is Vanilla with more tribes and better interface. Conquests adds a lot and only loses a few good things. Well worth the meal for 2 at a fast food restaurant cost.

TheOverseer is really good in advertising the extra package... Since he brings in fast food, too, he may be the marketing boss @ McDonald´s who teaches his staff to supersize everything ;););)
