what is the best map settings (normal, wet, arid \warm,temperate,cool

If I could get away with a one smiley post, it would be

Civ 3 complete is only 10 euros here. That's about 14 dollarcents.

I wondered too what the settings do. Am I correct with this?:
wet = more swamps and rivers, dry = more deserts and... uhm.
cold = more tundras and larger ice caps, warm is more deserts and grasslands?
3 billion years is rough mountains, 5b is more hills instead of mountains... (anything about the recources?)

That's not too far off, Theov.
Wet = only very few desert tiles; more plains instead. Not so much more rivers.
Cold = more tundra, less jungle, more swamps instead. The ice caps (the ones you can't walk on) remain similar.
Warm = more jungle, and more grassland instead of tundra.
3 billion years old = young terrain, so more hills and mountains. Less food.

From what I've seen, people that go for a high score generally choose 5 billion years old, warm and wet. Hehe, not me, course.

I play with a Warm climate. Cold is too much tundra. Wet has too much jungle. I usually choose 4 billion years because I do not want tons of mountains but I like Hills for their production. Also, coal (and more importantly, Iron) appear in hills. So, the more hills in the game, the better chance you will have a node spawn near you.
