What is the best unit to attack cities protected with Longbowmen?

It's a small difference, but drill is better than city raider when the odds are really terrible. You are more likely to damage the top defender at least. Trebuchets are vastly better than catapults, and better than maces too, if you want to attack before good gunpowder units.

:cringe:

Are you serious? If you can't beeline Construction before the AI gets Feudalism, you're doing things badly wrong.

It takes a skillful player to do anything of significance with elephants on deity before seeing longbows...or to have picked "marathon" in game speed.

The only good unit is modern armour.

Nukes are always a good unit. Always :nuke:.

^^ yes, on high level the window where you got war elephants and AI did not get longbows is pretty small.

Did not read through all thread, but have anyone mention curassiers? They are most common tool to deal with longbows in many games here. You just need lots of them.

Totally, fully agree. Rush towards the Gunpowder tec, then spam create Musketmen. You'll rule the landz
:king:

Actually, just make trebuchets + any other unit. That'll do the trick - it doesn't really matter whether you use muskets, maces or even longbows to clean up as long as you have enough trebuchets.

Cho-Ko-Nu ^^ Actually They're good against everything ;)

A good way to go against pro longbows in cities is with 1o trebs or more all promoted with city raider III with pikes, curaisers, and muskets in that era.
