I voted pyramids as well. Police stats and rep that early gets you onto the fast track pretty easily.

If I am playing Asoka, I do all that I can to get BOTH pyramids and Spiral Minaret.

Between those two and 3-5 religions (not hard to get 5 with Asoka, at least on Prince) you can do some pretty massive research early to late mid-game.

Beyond that, it depends a lot on what civ I am playing.

I almost always totally ignore Chitzen Itza - it costs too much and expires too soon to be of much help unless you are playing raging barbs.

i would say that it rlly depends on the situation and what u like to do for me id say chichen itza since im a warmonger AND and a slavedriver :whipped: :whipped:

The pyramids would be nice if I ever got it, but it always seems unattainable to me. Stonehenge expires too fast to be much help. Going for an early religion is easier and has much longer lasting effects. I sort of like the Parthenon since it gets you halway to a spiritual trait. But they pretty much all have their uses. The Collossus can come in handy if your commerce is slow getting started. I never build the Chicken Pizza. I figure if I really need that extra 25% defense, then I'm in deep doo-doo.

Edit: I meant philosophical for the Parthenon, not spiritual. Too much Civ IV can do bad things to your brain.

I voted other, which for me means The Oracle. It is so useful, if you can take theology with it. Usually when I build The Oracle no one hasn´t founded christianity, and so Oracle gives me a free religion. If I remember right, Oracle even gives Great Prophet bonus, so later on you can build a shrine because you built the Oracle.

Great Libary by a long way. It doesn't just give extra beakers but 8 GPPs per turn and that is much better than any other wonder at that stage of the game.

Great Wall: cheap, allows for a much smaller defensive force, allows GE production, which I could use for Pyramids.

Other, No one has mentioned Great Lighthouse. If you have coast, get this wonder above all others. Sheer economic output of your early coastal cities will be like having a free village or town in each city once you have open borders with a foreign civ. Add a harbor and currency and you become the economic powerhouse. The lighthouse lasts a long time and it will effectively give you the economic advantage.

I rank Oracle 2nd because I love the CoL jump, then bulb currency with a great merchant after mathematics. Cottage spam, switch to slavery to whip on occassion, and build wealth in every city and you'll find yourself wayyyy ahead in tech.

3rd is really a tossup. Artemis is nice in conjunction with all those extra trade routes. Having a level 12 city with 4 trade routes each snagging 6 or 7 commerce per turn is HUGE. Colosus is the other 3rd place contestant imho. I usually get it over artemis because its very hard to build both lighthouse and artemis.

I'd say the Great Library. Nice science boost, and great for generating Great Scientists (almost too good at that, sometimes). It also fits well with any play style.

It's not a must have (there are no must have WW's), but it's probably the most useful.

Sorry but U either a noob or just forgot something from the poll.
The best wonder of course is the Oracle.

I voted other. The three gorges dam is my favourite. With to great engineers you get instant power. That saves a lot of hammers if you have 40 - 50 cities on the continent.

In my opinion Stonehenge is the best wonder considering everything.

It is very cheap and is quickly chopped.
It comes very early.
It enables fat crosses on early cities without doing anything.
It produces GP points that are useful for the whole game!
It will guarantee a quick great Priest which can be used to get code of laws or theocracy.
It gives a great early culture boost for that city.
It is fantastic when combined with the oracle in terms of the free promo from the oracle and the free promo from the priest - if used correctly.
Oh and it centers the map - wow!

Don't get me wrong there are wonders with better effects and the free obelisk in each city isn't really of great interest to me. It is so good due to the early GP points, cheapness to build and the early time I can get it. I can also nearly guarantee getting it on emperor.

I'm sorry but the Oracle is nowhere near the best wonder (In fact I would argue it is one of the worst). One free tech over the course of an entire game is a puny effect. The CS sling is not the be all and end all of civ4 strategy and you can easily accomplish the same thing with GP. It seems to me most people are locked into using the Oracle as a crutch.

I agree with the majority that the pyramids is easily the best wonder (to the point of being overpowered, but at least it is expensive to build). Spiral is only really effective when going for culture win (then it is easily the best). I never seem to get the great lighthouse built, but have noticed big effects the few times I have. Stonehenge is really great for non cultural civs (and cheap to boot). Great library is nice, but also overrated I think.
