What is the building you never have time and resource to build?

Walls and Castles

I never build labs, I rarely build stables and castles. Aquaducts and coluseums follow.

Wonders I always wonder about the situation, but never have I built the interweb cept when I am that far ahead.

Since I have civ 4 i have never built any Castle, the Internet and supermarkets (because I usually am building modules)

I astounding as it seems I have built maybe 2 or 3 times in 25 games shakespeare theatre and the pentagon...I dont know why it doesnt fit in my plans ever...I always end up saying...one more thing to build...

Hum..I build Castles sometimes hehe.

But I never built Recycling Centre I think...And ICBM, I never build(so no Manhattan). And Scotland Yard is rarely! Also I dont build things like West Point or Pentagono!

Never build Temple of Artemis, I dont even bother! There is things more important then to build.

Coal Plants, never!

I prefer Nuclear Plants or The Three Gorges Dam :)

I also never build Jails, but that might change when i might get stuck at war for a longer period of time in 1.08. Currently trying my first game (Monarch), and at war with Brennus + Frederick in 800 AD.

Must be castles since, until reading this thread, I never notice them. Walls and bunkers only if there is nothing else to build. ICBM's and SDI are another couple of low priority builds.

Yes, very rarely build castles. Walls can be a cheap and easy thing, if the situation permits. But certainly not a priority. Now I do play the 'slower' paced games, so walls are a bit more important, but even on Marathon, by the time you build the castles they are practically obsolete.

i almost build walls if i have stone because wat the hell its only 1 turn with most productive citiesand sometimes theres nothing to build except wealth research or culture. I usually pllay in noble cuz im scared of the big guys soo i wouldnt know how necessery a castle is in the higher difficulties otherwise when i get a castle its trade route bonus which is not bad is already obsolete because of economics:king:

castles for me since they go obsolete so quickly. on the other hand, i don't rush to economics since i often stay in mercantilism for the specialist, i'm quite stingy with open borders.

i want to try a game as Isabella soon to see the power of her UB version of castles tho. it sounds pretty nifty.

1) Castles, unless I am going for a cultural win, then I build them in my three cities for the +1 culture. Otherwise I never build them

2) Coluseums, only +1 happiness? Its usually health, not happiness I have a problem with.

3) Monumnets, I pop a fat cross with religion, unless I am going for a cultural win

4) Bunkers, by the modern age I am either dead or in the lead and on the offensive

5) Stables, I am a builder and rarely build mounted units

6) Coal plants, I have problems with health

7) Nuclear plants, you might as well spend your time pillaging your own improvements and disbanding your units.

8) Broadcast towers, I get the ET

On another note, I build the internet to stop other civs from building it.

I've never built a single castle - in the small time window when they're available, my cities are usually busy something else. I very rarely build bunkers (no need) and colosseums (no effect since I barely ever raise the culture slider).

The building I never get around to building although I'd want to is probably walls or aqueducts.

i rarely every build walls, castles and coloseums. Some times, when i found a city in the late game, I skip most eraly buildings, like granary

Speaking of which, I really miss the advanced settler from earlier Civs that were available late in the game and gave your cities early buildings. I hate establishing cities late in the game because the do nothing but build buildings.

Always build walls and castles right when I have stone, most do eventually without. Its an inexpensive way to inflate the power graph so I can spend less :hammers: on units.
Never build nuclear plants, meltdowns and global warming are too messy.

good point. when i'm aiming for a culture victory, or even just trying to pressure a rival city in another type of game, i do emphasize buildings that usually i don't bother with.

Laboratories are critical in a space race game, unless you're so far ahead that nobody can catch you.

Internet is great if you're lagging a couple other civs in tech. I used it to catch up and win a space race game.

Recycling center I build while I'm waiting for a tech in order to make the next piece of the space ship. Otherwise, I agree it is nearly useless.

Pentagon is better to have than not have. I try for it if I'm well positioned.

To answer the question: I almost never build castles. I always want to build the Forbidden Palace, but often do not, having reached State Property first. Similarly, I wish to build Versailles, but never get around to it. Hermitage often does not get built. I build National Epic almost always later than I wished I had.

In addition to the obvious wastes of hammers: Walls, Castles, Bunkers

Drydocks: I never seem to have serious naval conflicts
Monuments: I'd rather chop a library, it doesn't expire, and I'm likely to build one anyway.

The absolutely MOST USELESS thing to build ever is:

The Manhattan Project

It gives you *no* bonuses, and it allows *everyone* to have nukes. So why not let someone else spend their hammers on it?

Overall, I find that I tend to build a good mix of stuff. Depends largely on the city, though, and I'm restricting myself to city improvements here:

I build practically no castles. Short usage, not worth the hammers, free trade route disappears almost as soon as it appears, etc. It's all been said before.

I, on occassion, build walls. I find it helpful to draw the AI's initial attack into my lands and use my mobility to strike and retreat against them, so walls are built in my border cities to facilitate the use of this tactic. However, that's a personal thing--I'm not surprised to see a lot of people here avoiding them.

I originally didn't like the use of Coal Plants, but then I played as Japan (with the Shale Plant UB). Since then, I have found the 50% production bonus indispensable and definitely mouthwatering, especially if you can offset the health penalty (the only true drawback--they pay for themselves in terms of hammers in the long run).

I tend to build more colosseums (sp?) now that the cost has been reduced in the patch...but it still isn't high on my priority list. I tend to deal with happiness effectively until my cities become really huge, after which I tend to put a few of them in.

When I play Continents maps or Archipelagos (or any other water-major map where I plan on conquest), I'll build Drydocks. Otherwise, I don't.

EDIT: Woohoo! My first post since the holiday break!
