What is the CS slingshot?

In short, it's building the Oracle wonder and using the free tech to research Civil Service (CS), assuming that you already have Code of Laws. Then you use Bureaucracy to make your capital a commerce powerhouse and get an even bigger tech lead.

Usually, the AI has the Oracle when you found code of laws though, unless you made some sacrifices in earlier techs.

I thought this sligshot also refers to using Oracle to get code of laws then using the great prophet generated to get civil service. Note this can be only be done if Masonry has NOT been researched. You usally won't have the time to research code of laws in MP mode to get straight to civil with the Oracle. With a Phi leader this slingshot can be achieved fairly quickly about 6-10 turns after building the Oracle.

With this slingshot I find it still possible to beat Industrious leaders to wonders like Pyramids.

Is there another way to slingshot to Civil Service with great people, without having to delay Masonry and therefore risk The Pyramids?

ToastyAlbus,

The CS Slingshot? thread might be of interest. Obviously deals with the question but includes a few variations such as the one FunkyMonkee has highlighted.

FunkyMonkee,

If you have both Theology and Code of Laws and yet not Monarchy (prerequisite for Divine Right), Civil Service should be your Great Prophet's technology option, so you can have Masonry and still get a slingshot. Masonry is usually avoided because it takes you down the Monotheism-Theology path. If you self-research Code of Laws and build The Oracle for Theology for instance, you can still burn a Great Prophet on Civil Service.

Strange. I love light-bulbing Theology. I usually haven't founded a religion by that point, and Theology is a lot less contested than CoL, so I can almost always get Christianity. And Theocracy ain't too shabby either.

Actually you can get CS with oracle more often than you might think in MP, even in Ladder play, just the following need to occur. a) no other strong players in the game, as they will build almost always before you can get to CoL. b) no other industrious civs. I generally avoid trying for Henge or Orace if im not indu and indu civs are in the game, as you will almost always lose. that race for obvious reasons. c) no India. Even less experience players feel that they have to chop that wonder even though Gandhi is not indu in WL. Oddly enough most games I have done the slingshot in MP I was not indu and had no marble either, it was simply neglected and not built so I pounced at the opportunity.
