What is the purpose to complete the "milestones" of whatever ?

What is the point ? Is it just to have points to spend in the next age for those "buffs" in the 6-7 domain screen ?
That, but also in the Modern age the 4 paths end with actual victories like in previous Civ games. Every point on the path earned in previous ages speeds up completion of the corresponding final victory project.

Why 4 domain to spend into 6-7 ? I don't get it. It's so confusing.
That's just how they structured the rewards. For each path, your potential rewards are:

1. Golden age legacy bonus for 2 points (and you can only choose one of them).
2. Dark age legacy bonus for ALL the points - this is available if you haven't completed one of the paths/domains at all.
3. "You did well" kind of legacy bonus for 2 points.
4. Attribute points for 1 legacy point each. Some paths are associated with two types of attributes, others with only one.
5. Other circumstantial rewards, based on the kind of crisis that happened in the previous age, or unique legacy bonuses that become available from leveling up the leader.

Your best bet is to not overthink it, and just look at the kind of points you have and "buy" whatever you can afford and sounds good for your game.

We could've just had 3 legacy paths, then each would've been associated with two attributes. Would've made a lot of sense given how the exploration and modern econ paths require more science rushing than the actual exploration science path.

But fans whined about an economic victory being the most important thing to add to the game ever, so here we are.

Like founding / conquering X cities, collecting X codex, and I forgot about the two others. What is the point ? Is it just to have points to spend in the next age for those "buffs" in the 6-7 domain screen ? Why 4 domain to spend into 6-7 ? I don't get it. It's so confusing.

Not sure why it is confusing. As stated, you get points to spend on bonuses for the next era. That is it. Pretty simple.

Perhaps? I am just not sure why getting rewards from achieving goals in a game would be weird from a logical perspective.
I was confused and mixed out the "expansionist, militaristic, etc." panel, which I have no idea how do we get points to spend in (beside events) with the more particular pick screen after an age.

Additionally, the indicated "steps" for the milestones are totally useless, naive and misleading. Not talking about the legacy-points-becoming-victory-points-in-modern, with a question mark on so-what-are-the-other-ages-milestone-for-?. Maybe that last isn't so badly explained, but it can be confusing when you face a lot of new things and are not familiarized with the game "vocabulary".

It’s the system in the game for earning continuity points across civ collapses. If you perform the activities they prescribe, you get points you can spend on your next civ to make them more powerful.

The whole game is badly explained. I spent more time searching stuff than playing for a while. I'm glad you ask questions here because your question and the answers it gets will help more new players understand. Thanks!

Personally I feel like I can't live without the economic two point bonus that lets you keep your cities from exploration into modern.
