what is the stack attack check box in options all about?

Can anyone explain about the stack attack check box in the options menu?

Also, does anyone know if there is a way to change of remove the full view of all my stacked units from the main screen when I attack. I only play on giant maps, marathon, and when I attack I have to use loads of units. The sheer number of my units obsucre the battle. I know the game was not designed for giant maps and huge numbers of units, so perhaps there is not a way to alter this, but if there is, please tell me.

If you are playing with that many units, then stack attack and quick attack will probably be helpful. Instead of seeing the battle animation, the quick attack just shows you the result. Using Ctrl-Tab, you can see a ful description. With stack attack, it will continually choose the best attacker(best survival odds= odds to win+odds to retreat) available and work out the combat until your stack is finished attacking, all dead, or the enemy is all dead.

I like offensive quick attack, defensive slow attack, and no stack attack. You can still select the stack, and it will attack with what it thinks is the most efficient unit to attack each time without stack attack on.

Use the "right click and hold on the target" to see what the combat odds are for the next attack from your stack, and press the left mouse button to cancel the attack.

There's an easier way to check combat odds... just select your unit and hover the over the enemy and press ALT, the combats odds show in the bottom left of the screen.

Stack attack is really meant for MP. Where attacking one at a time is unfeasible to to time contrained (and also gives the opponent time to reinforce/retreat, etc.
