if the first city I settle pops 3 barbs... the first kills my worker, and then they slowly pillage my city at times when it ruins production, and I can't get a second settler/warrior/worker out very quickly
if your 1st and only settler pops the hut by forming the city, you cannot get barbs from the hut.
You've nearly completed the Pyramids when... well, if the barbarians smash that, you probably deserved it.
fine... then if your culture expands and pops the hut in the first few turns....
that I know has to be able to happen.... its happened to the AI I've played against MANY times... and because of which, they always keep their worker in the city until they go away (and I usually try to trade for it, if I can)
The trick to this one is the presence of military units that have attack/defense stats. your settler, worker or scout don't have that so they do not pop barbs from the huts. The minute you have any military, then barbs are possible for non expansionist civs.
I've popped barbarians with a settler before.... never scouts because that indicates expansionist trait, which turns that off
never did it with workers... they don't usually go exploring
Sorry, I'd need to see a picture on that one. I am not saying it hasn't happened but I would need some proof since the coding is supposed to be against that.
I have used my worker to pop hutsbecause it is safe. (shhhhh, don't tell anyone that ok? that is major heresy around here.

And just for fun, you should read "Finally ready for Regent" in the legendary games. They used their workers as explorers - I don't think that is giving away any big secret as it is a famous game (unfinished).
Did you have even one conscript warrior at the time?
As I said, at the beginning of the game when you have no military units, you will not get barbs from a hut.
