What is the worst thing a barb can do to you???

There's one thing that they are capable of doing which is bad enough to make you quit the game - guess it...

You probably have got something different in mind, Axehaxe (with avatar that makes barbarians look civilized :)), but what enfuriates me is most is when, very early in the game, in the interturn, in the fog of war, a warrior from another civ pops barbs, with one of the barbs shooting next to my worker, and that barb destroying my worker in the same interturn.
The enfuriating thing is that you can't do anything to prevent it as you hadn't seen the goody hut and none of the units involved before your only worker is already in heaven. Very sucky.
Edit: Oops, I'm over 500 posts; I feel very old all of a sudden.

Settling a city with a Spearmen and a 30 horseman army kills your spearman and takes all of your gold that for some reason or another apperently gave to your settler.

Killing your starting settler if you wander long enough without settling. :crazyeye:

i play with loads of barbs all the time :) the thing i really dont like is when they slow down your growth at the beginning.

if the first city I settle pops 3 barbs... the first kills my worker, and then they slowly pillage my city at times when it ruins production, and I can't get a second settler/warrior/worker out very quickly

You've nearly completed the Pyramids when... well, if the barbarians smash that, you probably deserved it.

Mattias, you are on the right track. If you are building the Pyramids then YES you deserve it for being wonder addicted but what if you are playing deity level or up where you use the GL trick? You can't afford to build that many defenders without shortcircuiting your expansion which is also very important in the AA. So you have a palace pre-build with say 3 warriors or 4 at best unless you want you're civ's entire military in the city. A barb SOD with horsemen can easily overrun the city even ONE horsemen (if you have no immediate defenders) can take out 390 shields..I'm not kidding!! Why am I saying all this? Because it did happen to me the other day in a gotm and I am too shocked and too angry for words I don't even know why I'm talking about it right now...Glad it was just a game...

if your 1st and only settler pops the hut by forming the city, you cannot get barbs from the hut.

fine... then if your culture expands and pops the hut in the first few turns....

that I know has to be able to happen.... its happened to the AI I've played against MANY times... and because of which, they always keep their worker in the city until they go away (and I usually try to trade for it, if I can)

I'd have to agree with that. Doesn't happen too often but it sure is annoying when it does.

But yeah, it is rather deserved. But I do have a bad habit of not adequately guarding cities with wonders in them/being built. The (regular) AI sometimes takes advantage of that as well.

The trick to this one is the presence of military units that have attack/defense stats. your settler, worker or scout don't have that so they do not pop barbs from the huts. The minute you have any military, then barbs are possible for non expansionist civs.

I've popped barbarians with a settler before.... never scouts because that indicates expansionist trait, which turns that off

never did it with workers... they don't usually go exploring

Sorry, I'd need to see a picture on that one. I am not saying it hasn't happened but I would need some proof since the coding is supposed to be against that.

I have used my worker to pop huts:king: because it is safe. (shhhhh, don't tell anyone that ok? that is major heresy around here.

And just for fun, you should read "Finally ready for Regent" in the legendary games. They used their workers as explorers - I don't think that is giving away any big secret as it is a famous game (unfinished).

well... now I should get a screenshot... because on some of my games when I sent out ALOT of unprotected settlers, I would pop huts with them because I didn't want the AI to get them, and then barbs would pop out and kill the settler, and I'd get REALLY angry....

I KNOW its happened to me.... idk if its hard-coded against it, and maybe there was just some weird glitch in mine... but I am positive about this one... I have poped barbs with a settler

Did you have even one conscript warrior at the time?

As I said, at the beginning of the game when you have no military units, you will not get barbs from a hut.

ooh... I didn't know that is what you meant.... I believe I've popped them after cultural expansions when I had no units... but that I'm not sure off.... when I popped them with settlers they were all after I had military units...

my bad, I misunderstood you

I think we misunderstood each other. i was taking my cues from earlier posts.
