What is the worst thing that a human being can do?

I'm not sure about the value of this question, but I'll ask it anyway. ;)

I was having another debate a few days ago about "murder versus rape". My friend was saying murder, and I was saying rape. TBH, I don't think that there are many things worse than rape. Torture is perhaps one exception (rape is torture of course, but there are undoubtably worse forms of torture possible :( ). All human beings will lose their lives anyway, but rape destroys the quality of someone's life in an unspeakable way.

NOTE: keep the discussion to the nature of acts rather than the scale. Mass murder for instance might be worse than rape, but mass rape would cancel this out.

You can heal mentally and physically from rape. I think every rape victim who survives are glad they are still alive. Those few who aren't may commit suicide, but over the long run, rape victims still can learn to enjoy life.

Murder victims cannot.

There are worse things than rape, severe assaults which include deformation of the face or body could be considered worse. But nothing is worse than murder.... except

If two people are in a sort of feud, I believe murder may not be justified, but rape victims are always innocent, whilst a murder victim may have been a sorry person to begin with, and had it coming, so I guess it depends on the situation.

Abusing a child throughout their development.

Children who grow up in an abusive environment are more likely to grow up to be violent adults.

Studies have shown there is a gene for serial killers but that gene intself will not turn someone into a serial killer it takes a combination of genetics and an abusive past.

Abuse towards children breeds disfunctional adults.

Any Christian should know, according to the Bible, there is one sin that cannot be forgiven, so naturally, that's my answer:

LUKE 12:10, "And everyone that says a word against the Son of Man, that will be forgiven; But he that blasphemes against The Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.

MARK 3:29, "Whoever blasphemes against The Holy Spirit will never have forgiveness, but is guilty of everlasting sin."

MATTHEW 12: 31-32 "Therefore I say to you, any sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven men, but blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven. And whoever shall speak a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but whoever shall speak against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age, or in the age to come".

Here's a site I found real quick that talks about it in more detail:

Panthera in your eyes would I (someone who used to be a devote Christian and chose atheism) be a worse person then a murder or rapest that confeses to love Christ?

I don't think murder is the worst thing a person can do.

I'd say the worst thing for a human is to be born in an extremely miserable position that's pretty much impossible to get out of, such as an Untouchable in the Indian caste system or a starving kid in Ethiopia.

That and being severly tortured (which might go along with the above), which would include rape, although sometimes rape victims can eventually get back on with their lives in a happy manner.

Socrates said that no one commits evil knowingly. Anyway, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. However, commiting murder and feeling smug and selfsatisfied about it afterwards is pretty bad.

andrewgprv, every person knows, deep down - where they stand. A lot of people prefer not to think about it, since they don't HAVE to confront the Lord... yet. I mean hey, what if it's all not true, right? (That's the trick of deception, don't fall for it)

Sounds to me like you've just completely shut down the lines of communication. You can re-open them, anytime you want (there's no time like the pesent), and He'll be there waiting for you.

I cannot judge you. That's not my place. All I can do is be a witness to Christ, and tell you that you know what you need to do. The unforgivable sin that I mentioned, is not like anything any has been discussed here by anyone else. It is a level of evil I can guarantee you no one here has even imagined. There is a difference between being lost in the middle, and turning against your Lord, as the evil one did.

It's not as bad as you think, andrewgprv. But it's up to you.

I don't know, but this one comes awfully close.

Truly disgusting and horrifying. This isn't "fun" - it's torture, and they should be treated the same as war criminals.

Every Christian is always trying to convert it's part of the Faith. Just like we politicans are always trying to convert people to our line of thinking. The only question is in what way. Some ways are fine some can be annoying and some are awefull.

Panthera I respect your position of non-judmentalism. Not judging others is one of the tenents of a good Christian. It's too bad too many christians forget this.

For those of you who don't know, it was a brutal and barbaric "hazing" of junior high school students who were beaten, had guts of animals dumped on them and feces smeared in their faces.

Eww, that is ... disgusting. Just how dumb do they have to be to agree to go through with this? Oh well, I'm at least glad that hazing doesn't seem to exist in NYC.
