What is up with Cruise Missles!

I don't think I'm doing anything wrong here, but these cruise missles SUCK.

They can't leave my home continent, they only have a range equal to my city radius! I have yet to be able to USE a cruise missle. I can't load them onto transports. I can't rebase them. I can't load them onto submarines. I can't load them onto Battleships(which is where a lot of our missles are launched from today). Or Carriers, or helicopters, or anything!

So in short, what is wrong with these stupid things! They are basically like old truck mounted V2 rockets(except I can't seem to move the truck onto a transport). I want my missle that can fly half way across America and be launched from a Submarine! I'd also like to be able to USE these missles, instead of letting them sit and rot on my homeland while I'm off stomping across the world! So if anyone has figured out how to use these as something other than a glorified artillery piece, PLEASE tell me!

You can load 1 tactical nuke onto a nuclear sub.

Cruise Missiles are just like artillery units. Strange but true.

You have to use the bombard command, just like you do for artillery. The range is 2 squares.

Unlike artillery, cruise missiles seem capable of destroying their targets. I found that two or three will sink a battleship (if the Germans were silly enough to bring one within two squares of one of my cities).

Why they made them work this way in the game, I don't know. I agree that they should be able to be launched from some naval units, and their range should be greater.

This surprised me greatly as it was one thing I loved in civ2.. sending subs around with cruise missles or nukes. Oh so you want to declare war and invade me eh? :) Watch the missles rain down from your own coasts. I've only gotten them to load onto transports which makes sense but they should either then be able to rebase like planes or go via naval units which is where in the real world they are used the most.

The one I used did ok damage to a city, its probably best against units. I agree though that the range needs to be upgraded.

You can load cruise missles onto transports, but not in a city using the load icon. You have to have the transport on the coast of the continent, then just move the crusie missle onto the transport using the arrow keys. Kinda wierd.
 
Although, I do have one issue with the cruise missiles. Unless I am mistaken, you can't actaully launch them from the transport, you have to move them onto land first, which takes a turn and leaves them vulnerable to capture, then you can fire them next turn.
Also, the manual and the strategy guide say you fire them from carriers, which makes more sense to me.
 
stupid firaxis..were there any military advisor to suggest thing to firaxis team? exemple; that cruise missile are generally launch from battleship and were design to do so (tomahawk)???!!!
