So I don't need to build a stable to get xps for horse units? I can get them with barracks? Do I get both if I build both? Who designed this game anyway?

For clarity, barracks affect all land units, and stables only affect horse units. They stack, as all horses are land units. That is why Cavalry/Cuirassiers are for everyone; anyone can pop them out with 2 promos easily (though charismatic players will be closer to three than anyone else).

Horsies receiving EXP from Barracks is not all that implausible in real life. Try the Mongols UB, the Ger, just too pillage stuff in an unfocused tirade against the human race. Even if you lose terribly its still awfully fun.

Try the "+ increased withdrawal chance w/increased visibility range" promo route, or what I'd like to call "+ "1 Coward." You can promote your entire Keshik army into terrible cowards. How shameful.

Barracks+Stable+Construction=Bloody War Elephants;)

I remember Soren Johnson. He was the guy who mucked up Civ 3 right? I'll never understand why you'd take all the good that was developed in SMAC, discard it, and willfully move backwards with the Civ franchise.

In my recent game I'm pumping out fresh Cavs with 3 promotions thanks to Barracks, Stables, and Great General.:goodjob:

Hannibal is even goofier to play with. With a stable, rax, one settled GG, and running Theocracy, you are getting 4-promo Numid Cavs right out of the gate with promo#5 not far away. They trash everything :) Even better is when its time to start upgrading them to cuirs/cavs etc.

Seems realistic to me. Barracks train human beings, so any unit involving a human being, i.e. any unit, is more effective.

Stables are where horses are trained. The horses themselves get easier to ride and understand formations and not so scared of bangs and bits of steel flying everywhere, hence more effective. Trained human being riding a trained horse = double benefit.

What's more weird is that barracks don't enhance the skills of sailors.

Army and Navy don't get along. We don't put up with their kind.

Or pilots.

Army don't like the Air Force either

It's a good point though, it seems like Barracks should represent a generic military training facility. In RL, we don't get highly trained bomber pilots and aircrews from building a civilian airport.

ftfy.

That's because you guys are afraid of deep water and havn't figured out NGFS yet :)
it's ok, I'll keep your deep dark secret.

In the modern age, its less training that makes a soldier than it is the technology available. One on one, with similar weapons, pretty much any comparatively matched soldier from anywhere in the world has an equal chance at taking down his counterpart from another country. What makes the difference is that Jungle Jamal from Backwaterique is stuck with a rusty AK-47 and a dull pocket knife, while Soldier Sam from Richcountry has night vision, high tech body armor, intel from a dozen places, and a $10,000 state of the art battle rifle with which to take out Jungle Jamal before he even knows he's in trouble.

Honestly, I don't know why there isn't a corporation that could be founded that boosts XP on units built in the cities where the corp is present. Think of it as a Boeing/Lockheed-Martin/General Dynamics or what-have-you. Money poured into weapons research = better weapons. That's a large reason the US has great stuff... its not like Mexico couldn't build great jet fighters, they just haven't put the money into it.

You can get exp from both barracks and stable if the unit that is being trained is mounted (horse, camel, elephant). Most units get exp from barracks.
