why is it that i spend way more time looking at these forums saying to myself "wow that's so cool i'm gonna try that" then i do actually playing?

why havn't i finished a single game yet although i've started roughly 200?

why is it that i constantly change my mind in the middle of a game and start over (i.e. i'm gonna restart on a huge map, or i'm gonna try playing the g.o.t.m just to see how i stack up to the good players, or i don't think i like this civ, or maybe i should try a higher difficulty level, or maybe i should try a lower difficulty level, or maybe i should be warlike, or maybe i should be more peaceful)?

why is it that i get way more enjoyment out of reading about peoples awesome games on diety, or their great new strats and planning, then i do actually playing?

finally, could someone pls tell me about how much time in hrs. they spend on an average game, i mean one that stretches all the way to modern era and stuff?

oh and do u good players like *think* before every turn about what u wanna do and stuff? how much planning do u guys actuaally do? i wish i wasn't so impatient

Hehe, I'm like you.

I've started more games than I could count with a calculator, but finished fewer than I can count on my hand. ;)

I usually stop when it gets clear i can wipe out all AIs quickly. To bored... I like the first say 5000 years, then it gets too tedious... and I still haven't tried most of the sutff I see proposed here :(

I quit a lot more games than I complete - mostly through bad planning early on leaving me stuck - or just laziness or just deciding that the game is going nowhere.

I often make decisions too quickly and end up realising I've made a mistake or that I could have done things better - oh well, as I have limited time to play civ3 at the moment I tend to rush things and end up ruining a good start - still I enjoy playing the game anyway so thats all that matters (I suppose)!

I LOVE reading about other ppl's game. Certainly if they are good writers!:D

Sirian, i LOVE you! Sulla, u 2!

i suggest you go to the realms beond forum and read all the epic reports!

Its just great!. Way better than playing myself!:D

Before I discovered GOTM and the tournament I didn'f finish my games either. The remedy is to join the GOTM and/or Tourny, then you'll have to finish your game....

I don't know how much time an average game takes, the higher the difficulty the more time consuming.
Tiny map: 1 hour a 2 hour tops.

ERIKK has a good point. If you play on the smaller maps or on a lower difficulty (I usually play Regent - I'll win more often than lose, but I have to watch out not to do a boneheaded move) the games will play a lot faster. On a small map with the default number of opponents, I can finish a game in two sittings.

I used to think like this as well. Then I just decided I was going to play through every game no matter what the start position, how badly I'm doing or how many mistakes I make. I play on Monarch, which is a challenge, but still fairly easy to beat. I turn off autosaves(so I can't reload) and save only every 20 turns or so. And I just play it out until I die or win and vary my tactics each time. And I don't use any exploits, ICS or milking as they make the game an exercise in numbers rather than being fun to play.

I have found that starting location is EVERYTHING in terms of your future success. If my starting location includes a Cattle square next to a river, I'm going to have a good game. Otherwise, I hit "New Game" and try again.

So, I have "started" hundreds if not thousands of games but quit in 4000 AD. The ones I stick with, I generally play to the finish.

a.t.m. i'm playing a chieftain game as the chinese on large map, i have a ginourmous continent with only me and the japs on it and they are stuck in a tiny tiny corner w/ only room to build about 2 cities and room for me to build about 50....... i'm having fun but it'll just be a matter of time before i decide i want to do something different and quit hehe... i told myself i'd stick with the game more if i played at chieftain cuz everything would be easier and less frusterating, but now i'm dying of boredom hehe
