sins, it is just way too purdy...

never got around to playing it online so far, though

Galciv2, because the only other game I played on that list was Soase, and I didn't like it. Not entirely sure why. But I didn't.

It have be Alpha Centauri. I played Sins and I could not get any interest in playing it. Beside those I haven't play any other space games.

Note: I after voted for civ mod, I just remember that I played AC:sad:

GC2.

Of those, the only I haven't played is MoO2 and IG, so they might be better.
And I used to play VGA Planets when it was still v3. And I've played Sword and the Stars too. And a little Space Empires IV/V.

Comparing online multiplayer to single player is apples and oranges though. I've never encountered AI that was sneakier than a player who's been playing for years. It's a completely different experience vs. humans.

MoO2 is still the best IMO. GalCiv2 and SotS are both very worthy challengers to the crown, but they can't quite match up to the old classic.

Masters of Orion II, although honorable mention should go to that one Star Trek game that Microprose made... Basically it was MoO II in the Star Trek universe and was pretty fun to play...

...Unless you got invaded by a Borg Cube or Crystalline Entity early in the game and got wiped out before you even got started, that is.....

That was "Birth of the Federation".

Galactic Civilizations was so boring!
The AI was so boring, and they advertised the game as having the greatest AI!
I wish the AI built bigger spaceships...

YES! That's the one... I think I have the CD floating around somewhere.... Fun game, well, unless the aforementioned Borg Cube, crystalline entity or other high-level random disaster comes out of nowhere and wipes you out in the first 50 turns or so....

You eXplore a galaxy, you eXpand by conquering starsystems, you eXploit by harvesting materials and knowledge from planets and you eXterminate a damn good AI. I say it belongs in this thread.

You can say the same about Age of Empires or Starcraft ;)... You explore a map, you expand by building new centers and bases, you exploit resources and you exterminate other players... You can say the same about any full-featured strategy game.

Sounds like 4X to me and 4X isn't per definition only TBS.
Imperium Galactica is real time, but not RTS. Funny though it is strategy and it is real time...

That's because 4X and RTS are not definitions of a genre but names.

RTS and 4X have distinguishable patterns in game mechanics. Looking to these patterns in AI War I've considered the game is RTS.

4X and RTS are not mutually exclusive. ;)
