I couldn't vote but Hippus without a doubt is my favorite civ.

Mounted mercs are just so powerful you can wipe out a civ in 2 turns :D

Khazad! Love the short ones, and the foucs on gold!Plus the voices are cool too =)

I get bored if I'm ahead in score for too long, and who is the most fun to play as an underdog, fighting for survival? Bannor! There's nothing like desperately holding the line against the ravening hordes of Evil.

You need to try the High/Low game option if you like playing the underdog.

Lanun. Solid food source everywhere there's water? Insane early game commerce? Absolute rule of the sea courtesy of the Black Wind? Pirate fluff? Hell yes.

Luchirip. All problems can be solved by strength 15, fireball throwing death golem stacks.

A Queen of the Line carrying five golems from Blasting Workshops is fun too. Main guns ready, BURN THEM ALIVE. >:D

It's funny how my favorite civ has changed since this (or maybe another similar poll) was posted.

I always favored the Elohim for their sure-fire Altar victory. I still like them. Then, I liked the civs with the Raiders trait or those with Adaptive that could get it. That was nerfed, though, so...

Then, I thought nothing can beat the Calabim or Balseraphs.

But, recently I have found the Amurites and, to me, Govannon just won me over. Early on they are OK, but once THE MAN is in the game things change quickly and the most enjoyment I have had with FFH is playing the Amurites. :D

My favorite civ is the Doviello, because for me war is the most interesting part of the game and with no other civilization you can lead war as early and as effective as with the Doviello. I really can't stand the Kurios, but that is another thread (everytime I see this gay boy and hear his love-peace-and-joy music, Luzian takes his battleaxe and I can finally stop covering my eyes and ears)

I prefer the Elohim, because they're pretty good at preventing armageddon. Plus, they're just nice people. There are too many bastards in Erebus. :)

is this lore wise or playability wise? amurites for lore, bannor for playability.

edit: hippus are pretty close to bannor for playability too

I chose the Grigori because of their adventurer units. Sure, the religious heroes are cool, but I like being able to make heroes suit my starting position and current conditions, rather than going out of my way to engineer circumstances that my hero would be good in (i.e. - what if I need more defender heroes and I am not playing Khazad?) Granted, not having religion sucks a bit, but their worldspell, if used at the proper time, can more than make up for losing the culture and other benefits that come with being religious. Plus, once you get Blood of the Phoenix, it's over. However, I have a soft spot in my heart for the Luchirp; iron golems make me smile:D

Elohim, because they remind me of one of the coolest things about Master of Magic: taking over the other races' cities and building their super units.

I used to always say Sheaim, but I just got them as my final civ in a recent high-low game and wasn't able to pull off a win. :( I was looking forward to being able to smoke them all, but... it didn't happen. :(

Then again... I was able to endure for 200+ turns intermittently at war with most other civs in the game... so I guess I shouldn't discount them too much. Plus I had the industrious leader, not the arcane one (Ind didn't help when all the wonders were built long before I got the right tech). Perhaps if I didn't have the free units (both summons & planar gate) I would have been worse off... it is tough to say.

Although, now with summoning nerfed... I dunno.

Other picks would be the Sidar, since I'm often too lazy to bother building lots of cities and managing a big empire, so I like one city challenges, and the Sidar are perfect for it. I like Bannor's theme. Hippus I rarely play because they seem too powerful and too easy. I like Lanun. I love Elohim's tolerant trait.

Maybe instead of making people pick just one favorite civ, we had a poll where people picked their top three?

At risk of cluttering the forum with yet another poll... I think I'll do that.

Then again...

I enjoy the Ljosalfar the most - to me, they're not the Forest pansies, tree-hugging, dance-around-in-a-circle-at-midnight LOTR Elves but hardened, pragmatic defenders of the forest. Take a look at Amelanchier's portrait and see my Elven ideal: a tough, indomitable Raider, quick with a bow or sword, deadly within the forests.

Imagine the sudden shock on an enemy's face when he sees a Elven archer rise like a phantom from the forest depths, his sharp arrows already striking home.

I like being able to build in forests, raise mega-cities, research Nature, Life and Air spells to not only bring lightning down on my foes, but also to resurrect fallen Heroes, revitalize deserts and plains, cast out blasted infernal terrain, and all the while expand the empire in the name of the forest.

Basically, I get to eat my cake and have it too: since I role-play, I can feel like I'm doing good while getting things my way.

(It's also a challenging civ to play as their units frankly are not all that "scary", so defeating zombies, spectres, demons, orcs is all the better)
