what is your favorite unit?

Nothing says "crush, kill, destroy!" Quite like Praetorians...

Except Vanilla 1.00 Redcoats and Cossacks. Think a current Redcoat, but with 16 Strength. Get a City Raider III Vanilla 1.00 Redcoat and you were in business. Had a Runaway Train conquest game with them once, where I had to keep going until there was no land left, conquering cities to fund the maintenance of the cities I'd conquered. Was a lot of fun, and by the time my economy tanked, I had no significant challengers left. Cossacks were arguably even more overpowered with 18 Strength, but I never had a similar game with them.

War Elephants have to be near the top, due to giganticness and the ability to dominate if you can get to them early. Lately I've been liking the Paratrooper, with their cool paradrop and ability to sever resources the same turn as paratrooping. All I need now is a long-range Paratrooper.

The ones I enjoy watching most are the colorful, dramatic elephants.

For gameplay, I like cataphracts because they are much more powerful than their contemporaries, for that reason that are effective for a very long time, and they become available just about the time I want to take out the competition.

I can't believe no one said Samurai- the way he slices! I also can't believe no one said Cavalry. If I get cavalry first, its over.

Privateers. I like the ship battles, extra GG points and grinding less advanced civilizations down while they still like me.

They aren't the best unit, but they're my personal favorite.

Keshiks.

I generally despise warring of any kind, but sometimes I enjoy seeing how far I can get with low tech Mongolian horde.

For some reason, warring with Keshiks just feels fun.

Cataphracts and Berserkers, no real gameplay reason, I just like those units (historically as well).

actually, i guess artillery and battleship are probably the best at bombarding city defenses and nothing beats the good old artillery when you need a fast, cheap, but reasonably good fighting unit. :hatsoff:

Hi, Mike. I can think of a few things available around that point in the tech tree that are better at fighting for their cost, and since Artillery have move 1, I doubt they are fast. Ditto for Mobile Artillery (who also are not fast for their era.)

why does everything i say have to be criticized oh, sorry right now im in a bad mood:(!!

but why did you call me mike and i ment by fast was that when you built it is is fast

and sorry for getting mad:)

:lol::lol: I think damerell has Mike III on the brain...another newish player with even more bizarre newbish ideas.

Anyway waz, it's actually quite common for new players emphasize/focus on aspects of the game that really are not that important. (it's kinda like "oooh shiny!!!") We've all been there...trust me. The thing you will find here is that experienced players focus more on what gives them advantages in the early game, because...simply...that is where the game is won. Improve your start and the first 50 to 100 turns of the game and you will win on a consistent basis and move up difficulties fast. The Strategy & Tips forum is a great place to really improve your game and learn why we don't always agree with you.

(In reality, it is just a video game, so with that in mind, everybody is right. However, there are certainly better ways to play the game if you choose to improve)

Artillery: 150 hammers, strength 18, can't kill things. Infantry: 140 hammers (faster to build), 20 strength, can kill things. There's really no reason to build arty as a general combat unit.

Probably either Praetorians or Keshiks. Both of them are awesome at
1. Build them nonstop in all cities
2. Send them all at of your enemies one city at a time
3. ????
4. Win the game

Chu-Ko-Nus, collateral damage FTW! Build 10 of them and conquer every city, it is really fun when the AI has lots of axes or swords.

If we are talking uu's I'd have to say immortals are my current favorite.

But if we are going to just talk about stock units I'd have to say the cats, trebs, and cannons stuff is usually getting the majority of my attention when making a build order for war.

Okay, I'm still new at this game but I'm gonna say 'knights'

as they are pretty much the backbone of the military

Who get made into dogfood when they run into pikes :)

For me, early unit; Quencha's.

Maybe not the best, but IMO Cataphracts are one of the most fun.

With 12 base strength it is almost a cuirassier that can be available much earlier, and does much better against elephants and pikes than a regular knight.
I love the Cataphracts for the same reason.

The ICBM.
Tactical nukes are better for their ability to be brought right up to the enemy, IMO. But still, ICBMs are fun :)

Where's Attacko when you need him to tell you the proper use of amphibious promoted war elephants? :p
By the way, my mod has a unit after the paratrooper with longer range (the Special Forces unit). Just go onto the C&C modpack threads and search for "Special Forces" ;)

5. Profit.
You forgot the step 5, and mixed up 3 and 4 :p
