Immortals better than Samurai? Am I hearing things? Samurai are one of the best UUs there are!!!

Maybe exept for panzers......:tank:

Hey NOTHING is better than Samurais. Remember, they are affected by the ULF (unlimited luck feature) which allows them to beat absolutely everything ;)

Well, seriously I'm not very fond of very early wars and GA, so Samurais are my favourite. Another thing in Japan's favor is the Religous trait...though Industrious is great too. Anyway, I have played three games with Japan (not everyone as many of you think ;)) and I've always had HUGE luck in them. Can't say the same with Persia and Rome :(

Also, the only time I've ever manged to beat Samurai has been with infantry and artillery. Those guys slay my Riflemen as if they were kids  !!!

Samurai are great, but it's a long long wait for them on lower levels, and on higher ones they are outdated already when you get the tech. I end up encountering Riflemen, and believe me, AI Riflemen win against Samurai....

Immortals on the other hand.... :D:D:D

Ehy does so many people like the iroquois? Apart from the mounted warrior i think they are pretty average. I play as the egyptians simply as they feel a cool civ to play, just have a kinda feeling about them.

iroquois are of course the powerhouse on higher levels.
the expansionist trait means u get all ancient era techs thru goody huts, saving gold.
the mounted warrior is better than any other ancient era unit including immortals because of their attack value and the ability to retreat.
the religious trait means cheap temples and 1 turn anarchy.
elite MWs are as good as knights.

cool.maybe ill try the iroquois then, even if their name is annoying!
i played as them once and now i think of it the mounted warriors were good. However i normaly play as either a scientific or industrious civ so i missed those traits.
Whats the most useful trait tho? I tent to believe industrial as the rate of road building and cheaper industrial buildings mean u can build scientific and religios buildings quicker (thus negating the scientific civ bonus and the religious civ bonus)

I like English and the Man o War. I just build about 500 Man O wars and take over the world. I wish my citizens could get some beer.

 yeah!mmmm beer. U LIKE the man o war!? i thought i wasnt that much better than the friggate and its not long before ironclads come along and make them redundant. The English special unit should have been something medieval like "Kings Knights" or maybe something industrial era like "empirical rifleman" as these were england's most powerful eras.

I like the germans best. maby Scientific bonus is not so great and the Militaristic is just ok but the panzer unit is great Best off unit in the game. If you back up your panzer with bombers and Infantry and Artillery you have a good blizterkrieg and yours emy don´t stand a chance.I always wait for the Industrious age to start wars and almost always end up in world wars.

That depends if you get that far into the game. The bad thing about special units at the end of the tech tree is that you take ages to get them. One of the reasons why pple like civs like the Zulu, Aztech, Babylonian, and Persian is because they're special units are very early to come by, giving them a huge advantage early in the game.

I think the best UU come in the late medieval era as this is when most players find that they pull out an advantage over the AI. Then these units can wipe out whole civs at ease (e.g samauri and cossack). Legionaries, hoplites, jag warriors etc.. come too early too make a difference as the AI seems to have loads of troop early in the game.

Oh yeah, also: how do you change to title under your username.mine says cheiftan but ive seen some custom ones. thanx

Japan beats them all. Don't forget that Legions and Immortals cannot stand the test of time as well as Samurai. The Samurai can upgrade to the cavalry, but the Legions and Immortals are stuck where they are.

And half priced temples OWN. Seriously, having half priced temples and cathedrals gives you a tremendous advantage. 1 turn anarchies are awesome. Militaristic doubles the chance of getting a promotion, and it lets you have cheaper barracks.

Religious/Militaristic is my favorite combo, and I take Japan over Aztecs because I prefer a middle ages GA.

I choose the Iroquios against the tech whoring AI, but Japan would be a better choice against other people in multiplayer. The Samurai wouldn't go obsolete as quickly. The Samurai has an advantage if he is attacking or defending, so he usually wins in most combat situations. My 2nd favorite UU, behind the Chinese Rider, of course. I don't like China because they aren't religious, however.

I think you have to have a certian amount of posts, although I'm not sure what that number is. (maybe around 20) Yet I do know that once you have that amount of posts or whatever you can go to UserCP and go to Edit Profile and there'll be a small box that says, "Custom User Text." You can change it there.

I like the Greeks due to having a 1/3/1 unit (hoplite) right from the start that is cheap to build. Good for defending my cities with only 1 unit, allowing more offensive forces on the ground. Add the fact that they are totally upgradeable to mech infantry, and you can't go wrong.

Add to this mix Scientific and Commercial traits, which are good for tech growth and army support. The only drawback is the potential for a GA that may trigger too early.

thanks portugese. So far the Japanese are the favourite civ! thants a shock cos I found them average except for the samurai. The religious trait is ok but isnt THAT good.Cant argue with the millitaristic trait though.

What would be your favourite all time civ and why.

Mine has to be the Russians. They are scientific, which is great cos it means you have a free tech every era and cheaper scientific buildings. This frees up your time to creat cultural buildings thus standing a good chance at cultural victory. Due to the scientific advantage you also stand a better chance at being able to build the UN headquarters and win by diplomatic means.

Another factor is the special unit:- the cossack. It comes at the best time in the game. Not too early to become useless quick but not too late to have been of no use. For example, if you play as the americans you have to do well with normal units until late in the game (and u get the mig).If u dont do well early on it will be too late to make an impact. The cossack is fast, Strong and lasts a long time.

Orverall a very powerful civ

My first would be Persian followed closely by Japanese.

EDIT:

My reasons are classic, it's been said and I will restate it again.

Persian's UU rocks up to the point that I think it really imbalanced the game just spur 10 of them in a standard map game and you can bring a civ down or at least hurt them badly. Cheap libraries & unis help with science since I like to get a lead on tech, and the industrious trait for obvious reasons.

Japan's UU is da' best, perfect time to trigger golden age and you don't need to bother much to chunk extra musketeers to defend them against counter-attacks. For pure brute military conquest I think Japan rocks all the time, militaristic trade for obvious reasons, religious also helps to get a solid culture, I've always built temples and cathedrals asap and so in mid ages I always have admirable culture. This way I can annihilate my enemy without worrying much about culture flipping.
