Do you beef up your military? or do you focus on trade? maybe you go for a scientific victory? or maybe going cultural is your thing?

I like to have a technological lead over the competition.

Heh, I don't really have one. Still trying to unlearn Civ 2 strategies. I tend toward a military focus, I guess.

It mosly depens on music I listen to. When the RHCP are on, i tend Sci/Diplo, and when I listen to Iron Maiden, it's more war-like.

@Pentium:  That's interesting way to play :goodjob:

Un-like above, music won't affect to my playing style, usually I make war just to slow down a little bit AI. And it gets quite boring if you don't put good fight sometimes.

I think I try to beat AI in tech race.

Very interresting, but it's not on purpose. I just want to attack someone when I hear that loud metal...

I try to build on my neighbours land, which usually leads to war :mischief:

Try to do everything simutaneously.

Play with the maximum number of opponents. Try to keep good relationships with most civs and stay ahead in culture and science, while continuously fighting your immediate neighbors. Makes the game quite interesting and challenging.

My strategy is purely war-oriented. Trade, technology, buildings, relationships, alliances etc. are all seen in the function of conquering the enemy of the moment.

It also leads to the permanent loss of your reputation. :(

Totally nonmilitary except city defense. Build culture to preserve cities and expand territory; makes for a decent Industrial/modern game. Foreign policy is generally isolationist: Right of Passage, trade agreements, but no MPP! Build economic and industrial strength for a Space Race or Diplo win. As long as I play at Monarch or lower, I generally am able to follow this policy:

Invest in science as much as possible. I never touch the Luxuries slider.
Sell the technology to everybody for tech and exorbitant gpt.
Reinvest the gpt into science.

By the middle of the Industrial Age, I have 0.10.0 allocation and am making about two hundred gpt, so I'm richer and more advanced than anyone else.

My style is basically to build up my empire as aesthetically pleasing as it can be. Unfortunately for the AI, that usually includes some metachromisis. :D

i be peaceful and establish a good republic or democracy, build infrastructure, then get replaceable parts, and even if i'm small and don't have any strategic resources, on monarch and emperor, you can conquer a lot with just artillery and guerillas, even against mech infantry civs. neither arty nor guerils require strategic resources. with cavalry and artillery against mech infantry zerksees conqeured the world on a standard map on diety. wow. he's been my hero ever since i read that article.

I expand as far as i can and go scientific and build up my empire real nice, then once i get my countries UU (which for me is usually panzers) i attack the other AIs resulting in the whole world speaking german....HAHAHA!!!!

My playing style is pretty much pure expansion. The ancient age is for building as many cities as I can. I expand until there is no room left near me (I don't want that tundra on the other side of the continent). Then my military does the expansion for me. Usually with sworsman first, then knights, then calvary. Once I reach the late middle age and early industrial age I build up all the territory I have conquered with infrastructure and rails. Then I own about 50% of the land and I decide which victory method I want and go from there.

I was predominantly a pacifist-builder while learning from Warlord through Regent. During this time I usually won the Space Race or Diplomacy. But I realized the miltary aspect of the game was totally missing and changed to the premise that a strong defense is a good offense. Making the move from Regent to Monarch I learned to be adept at combined arms using Artillery, Infantry, and Cavalry. The Germans suited my style of play: early builder-late conqueror. I started winning Domination victories but always late in the MA. Sometimes I went with Space Race because the game was already decided and the micro-management of wrapping up a MA war was unfun.

In my most recent game I am attempting to war-monger for the first time with a zero science gambit and libraries very low on the build list. My goal is to win the quickest domination game. The setting is PTW, 80% water islands, playing the Monarch Vikings. I have successfully applied the concept of combined arms with bows, spears, & catapults and starting to build Beserks with plans to hone my naval skills. Next stop is Emperor and who knows how the strategy will change...

My preference is a quick Republic domination win. I build few improvements (marketplaces, a couple granaries, 5-10 barracks, a harbor or two) the rest is units (settler, workers, offensive, and siege) I build very little defensive units. I try to win by the Middle-ages.

MILITARY!!!!!!!!!!! general strategy: expand til no more land, build up military, take all AI land, win by domination.

I am a old play since dos version, and I am also a sad play as I lost almost games even on lower level before this year. I learnt MicroManagement and Settler Facory, then I won all games on Monarch.

I play China on Tiny Monarch with 60% continent. My strategy as below:
Basically I build my first city at first except the tiles are very bad, then two warriors will be made, next, I adjust 90% science to discover Pottery and let worker mines at grassland.

Now my warrior will go around to scout in opposite direction. A granary is to build after Poterry discovered. Bronze and Iron discover start.
If I meet AI civs, I will tarde discover with them ASAP, a settler will be made after granary finished even city size is only 4, my 2nd settler will build 2nd city base on TIGHT BUILD (2 tiles between cities), in the meantime, more warriors are making until Capital size to 3-4 and discover until Monarchy.

My settler factory is not perfect because the capital radius is not so good, so I have to build some units by settler, but this speed is enough fast comparing with AI.

If I discovered Iron firstly, I will check if AI civs are friendly, The peace comes if AI is friendly, or I have to destroy them before they got Iron. If they got it firstly, that's not so good news, I start to build stronger Swordsmen.

I start to attack AI's city with iron tile when I got 10s Swordsmen.
My favorite wonder is that can build temple in all continent cities.
Then ....
At Last I won domination victory before or at the first Industry Age.
