I curious to know what people look for in selecting an sucession game to join up with

I voted for 3 things:

1) Who is running the game

2) Difficulty Level

3) Variants

I think knowing the organizer of the game is important as it gives you a level of trust and an idea of the "ethos" in which the game is played. The worst thing that can happen in a SG is if it fizzles out because people lose interest or it is not organized properly, so having someone who will keep things moving is important. Similarly if the organizer is someone you have played with before or whose games you have read, you get an understanding of the spirit in which the game will be played and whether or not that is to your liking. This overlaps with a couple of other options, teammates and rulesets. So in my personal experience I find myself playing SGs with roughly the same set of people...for example, I have played in loads of SGs with Aggie, Meli and Greebley.

Difficulty level and variants is a personal preference: a game has to be challenging and interesting. If I want to play a simple, non-variant game I tend to play solo. If I want to try a very difficult game or one with an interesting twist then I will either organize a SG or join a variant I am interested in.

Denyd,

You didn't specify reasons as positive or negative. As an example, some people may vote for variants because they prefer to play them, while another might vote for variants because they don't like them. I only voted for style (PTW, etc.) simply because I don't have C3C, and see no point buying it with C4 on the way (or until C4 fizzles, and C3C comes down in $).

I voted 3 options:

1) difficulty level

2) map setting : huge maps take time to finish the game.

3) version being played : I have Civ3 and C3C, but I haven't played C3C that much, I have bought it recently.

I voted other, as the main criteria is my own spare time.

1. Who's playing the game- Even more important then who's running it. I've been in numerous SGs where the starter disapeared 3 pages in & the players recruited another teamate and finished up.

2. Variants

3. Difficulty

4. Patch- Cause I don't have 1.22.

Other Players are important.

More and more I consider who is sponsoring the game. I am considering this because of an experience I am having in a game that shall remain nameless.

Difficulty - for the challenge.

Variants and special considerations - These can really make a game fun. Kind of puts you into a role playing mode.

Voted for others, since a lot of factors may cause my interest - map size, level, variant and so on...

I selected: version, difficulty, who, map size, variant.

I've not avoided a game because of who was playing, and I like to play with new players, but I do very much enjoy the grumpy old men of Always War :D

I would avoid large or huge maps in AW becuase it would take too long. Large in a space race would be okay.
