Loosing is the natural part of the game ...

ehh ... again mistakes in making pool ... second should be ...

I can't watch on my defeat. I'm a sensitive looser.

It's losing, not loosing. Loosing means to untighten. Losing means to not win. But I retire when it looks very grim.

I voted other. For me it depends on the type of guaranteed loss.

If it's conquest, sometimes you can see it coming, but know that if you make your best stand, it will take 50 or more turns for you to completely lose, or if you can get peace you can never really get back in power. In these cases I retire, as war is very time consuming.

However if its a space race, and I'm pretty sure that I'm going to lose, it usually means that the world is pretty much at peace, and therefore the game goes pretty quickly. In this case I'll play through and take my defeat.

I am so sick of idiots spelling it looser!!!! I don't care if English is or isn't your first language, either!!!

I voted other. I quit the hopeless ones but will play out anything close. Coming out of isolation and finding that the world is at rifles or infantry when I just got Optics is rather annoying. If that happens and I don't have three cities that can realistically make culture I will concede defeat. This game takes to long to pound out an obvious loser.

I voted other as well. I will ride out most games to the end, even if I am losing in hopes at a chance to pull off something like a spaceship or something. If I disabled spaceship I will quit if it I am generally bored of the diplomatic scenario in the game. However, if the diplomacy is interesting enough, it will incourage me to warmonger a bit to see if I cannot change the way things are. It varies on the game's settings and relations if I will quit.

I generally prefer to fight to the end (see here). If I find myself transformed into a third-world country, though, the game can get boring. I usually try to play each game to its conclusion, but if I end up saving and quitting a game where my loss is inevitable, I won't bother reloading it just to see how it ends. I've never retired, though.

I voted for other. I never retire, I just start a new game if one isn't going the way I like. At marathon speeds a game can last 100 hours, if I'm not having fun, it's work, and I quit.

You need to loosen your attitude man, you're sounding like a loser

Being an Ulsterman i never give in and do not accept defeat easily. This usually means I start a new game quickly and be very aggressive!!

I don't lose :P Plain and simple I basically don't move up a level until I completely dominate. And it is lose :P

I'm ashamed to say that I am not a good loser when it comes to Civ games. If it looks like I'm going to be crushed and don't stand a chance I give up.

I retire once it become obvious that I have no hope of winning.

I play Civ for fun and playing out a lost game simply is not fun, and its not like the AI is getting any enjoyment out of winning!

I voted other because I never saw the point of retiring I just abandon the game and start a new one.

[How many of those who play out a lost game would opt to play all 5 sets in a tennis game once they had lost the first 3?]

lol you must be one of them bad losers... tough game was it?

I tend to retire when a game gets out of hand. I never just abandon the game. I keep track of my games with sequential numbers (I am right now on game XL (40) ) a practice I started back in Civ III. It allows me to track myself in the HOF, to see if I have done better or worse over time, how current strategies are holding up, etc. etc. Interestingly, my best game SO FAR is still game II, the only game I played on Settler level.

If I get to an untenable position, I tend to retire. After year 2000, I will finish the game out, even if I am sure to lose to an AI space-race win, since with less than 50 turns left, I don't lose much by finishing it. It helps me polish my endgame. But if, say, I get a barb rush that catches my unaware in 1000 BC and I lose a core city real quick, rather than restart an earlier save, I usually retire and start a new game. I find myself retiring a LOT less than I used to (early on it was every other game or so. I have run every game to completion, not always a win, for about 10 games...)
