Chowell, I'm sure they could easily do that. Apolyton forces (:mad) registered users to put in their first and last name, and it shows on the profile. I wouldn't have minded if it wasn't shown, but it was. And it was a required fill-in.

Point is, it could be done. I had to put in a "Anonymous Anonymous" in those boxes.

Wow, there's a lot of people that play Prince/Monarch.

Just thought maybe we should have two new profile entries - one for "usually plays" as in Civ1/Civ2/CTP/Civ3/PTW and then one for "usual level" as in "Chieftain/Warlord/..../Deity" - don't have PTW yet so I'm not sure what level means in that.

Germans sneak-attacked and ran their ****** Panzers all over my Empire last night, so I'm not gonna win this one at Emperor without reloading either...I'll have to go back to Monarch to boost my ego soon...

This is an interesting change from the last "what level are you playing" poll. In the last one, the levels looked more like 3 platforms (lower two being the same, around the middle, middle two being the highest, and the end two being the lowest).

Now it's more of a bell curve.

Just goes to prove that the world is ever changing :goodjob:

I've been playing Regent lately. Usually I get frustrated, quit the game, go back to warlord and try a new tactic out, if it works, go back to Regent. I'm trying to finish the Regent game I'm on now. I think I've got a chance, if I can get through this World War I'm in. I think I'm second, might be first. Damn Spanish. . .Those Conquistidors SUCK! I hate fighting against them. Hmm. . . maybe my next civ will be Spain. I've been playing Ottomans, and Arabs.

I make it a point to get the GL for exactly the reason you pointed out. But I have had some games where I didn't get it. It's usually the only Wonder I get until the late Middle Ages unless I get lucky with GL's.
In direct answer to your question I have won twice without building or capturing it, as the Egyptians and Persians. Not sure how many I lost or gave up on (many more than twice). Both those times where with good starts and lots of luxuries, which was the key I think. Plenty to keep me happy + less luxury tax + trade potential. Industrial trait helped too. With no luxuries I got no joy and no win.
I am still not really comfortable having no research for a long time. I used to have the tech lead on Monarch and could pre-build and plan Wonders better. Also better soldiers meant less soldiers which meant better infrastructure. I am still very unused to having the smallest and worst military.
I am getting better but time constraints mean I don't play the ones I am definitely losing for their learning potential as often.
At least Emperor is better than Deity. I never get any Wonders or anywhere at that level. Sometimes I feel lucky when my Settler founds a town it stays mine and doesn't flip immediately to whoever is next door.

Yeah if I don't get the GL I give up, I shouldn't I should see if I can still pull off a Diplo victory or culture victory (I turned space ship off)

I usually play emperor, huge map, max civs, and as germany, on contintents. I play continents because I will use navy in the modern age and it gives me that ability.
Anyway on my current game I was on a contenent with spain and england. I got the GL and stayed up with techs with the civs on my contenent and the one right next door, but there was another undiscovered continent who's civs were even MORE advanced, so I guess you can say that in a way the GL was only minimal help on this game.

monarch i'm afraid. In civ2 i played emperor easily, but deity was way too tough. havent tried emperor or deity in civ3 yet tho. im waiting till i get more controlled wins on monarch. All i've had so far is diplomatic, and thats not as impressive as say cultural or spacerace, dontyathink?

Being playing Diety for a couple of months. Never won; just regard getting to the Industrial age ahead of one or two other civs and building a couple of wonders as a kind of victory. Even to acheive this I usually reject a dozen starting positions before choosing one that looks perfect. Diety in Civ3 is harder than Civ2 I could win perhaps 50% in 2.

But just got three wonders for the first time, so i'll put that champagne in the cooler just in case.

Anyone one who can beat Diety has my awe and respect

Ummmm....
Well, Warlord (Regent) just to have, but now I went back to Cheiftain in order to test the next expansion.
The biggest map available, the maximun number of civs available and usually continents with the max of land mass.

I'll say it again, WAT IS A VANILLA GAME?

I like kicking AI ass in Chieftain.

I"m thinking of playing a game just for that purpose Kevinicus,
I think I'll play cheiftan, it's been a while since I didnt' have to stuggle to keep up in techs...

I can't believe Warlord has overtaken Emperor... get some nutz people :mischief: ... I went back and played a Warlord game. I find the lack of unhappiness makes the game too easy.. but hey.. to each their own.. that's why i created the poll.

I play Diety when I feel I need to practice and get good for a fight online, but sometimes ill play on regent, warlord, or even chieftain just for fun and to watch as i beat the rest of the world...very badly.

Well, I usually play on monarch or lower.

That's strange, I play on monarch, and my gov is monarchy! Strange.....
