Just a general question/discussion forum asking, what would it take to make a computer a low end system. My guess is that its due because of the newer games that are comming out today that has higher min system requirements.

Please discuss away :).

Giving it a cleron makes it low end. Generaly a low end computer is a computer that falls below the norm(currently at least a 2Ghz CPU and 256MB of memory). Normally not much use for anything other then writing and internet acess.

My computer is very low-end. I have 256MB, 1.3 GhZ, CD drive (not RW!), a floppy drive, and USB 1.1 ports.

low end system has integrated graphics and sound. CPU that is considered not competitive to today's standards (3000 performance ratting)

the store i work at's low end systems are p3-550's with 128 ram, 6.4 gig hd.
4 mb integrated video, 40xcdrom and compaq propriatory motherboard.

But you can still play civ3 on it though ;)

3000+ is still very good... i doubt AMD will get past 4600+ this year. CPU progress has slowed alot over the past 2 years.

Low end just means they're not exactly cutting-edge. Though the price usually more than compensates for that. I think the main quality a computer needs to be low end is just the price. Although most low end computers are still pretty reliable for playing older games, so if you're not looking to play the latest releases, they're pretty sweet. ;(

I meant that 3000+ is standard now.

So, you work at Paperweights-R-US too?

Would the Intel 8088 I have in the basement be considered low end? It has a huge 4MB hard drive! don't forget the 640k of RAM. Yep, 8 bits of pure processing power. screw those 64 bit pansies.

No. That would be considered obsolete. :p
