Do alliances reveal the map now?

One minute I’m exploring, the next minute all of sudden the entire map reveals itself. Timing coincided with an alliance created with the Cree.

Seems a pity, as all exploring is over by 1120 AD.

It's a special ability of the Cree: shared visibility for all alliance forms.

You can also get that from emergencies now because you share visibility with other participants.

That must be it, I've experienced it a number of times where the whole map just opens up and I never really noticed why.

Ironically this has led me to hesitation when the Cree has asked for alliance before, because I don't want to reveal my precious map information to them and I want to discover natural wonders with my scouts.

Poundmaker is a pretty chill dude, though, so we tend to get along. (Unless I burn his lands, but that's neither here nor there.)

It seems level 2 military alliance also reveals the map (that your allied partner has explored). Is this new? I don't remember it in Rise and Fall, or maybe I never noticed. I noticed it in my current game when my military alliance with Inca reached level 2 a large part of the map lit up.

Yes, military alliance always revealed the map at level 2, or at least revealed what your ally could see.
