What settings do you put?

We usually automated the workers and let the computer manage our cities.. i see the rise to monarch being much easier now

Letting the computer manage city populations (though obviously not building) isn't too bad, particularly if you use the priority options, but automated workers is probably the biggest no-no in the game. They just randomly build improvements with no thought to city specialization.

Well i understand automating workers = wrong however.

Im a little unsure as to how to proceed with "city specialization"

I THINK you mean..

Some cities specialize in science others in military etc... however im not quite sure how to manage this. Does this mean military specialization cities dont build nice things like libraries and universities. While science specialization cities dont build things like military units?

also how are you guys taking those nice big screen shots of your games?

My start was on a penisula surrounded by jungle some of which ive removed.

My 'friend' started below me 20 tiles and has blocked my expansion so ive had to hop over the water to another area...

Yep, exactly. Although the tiles you have your workers improve around the city are just as important as what the city builds. Science cities will want lots of cottages to work for commerce, or high-food resources for lots of specialists. Hammer cities on the other hand want lots of hills to mine and enough food to feed them.

Also you can take screenshots ingame with the Print Screen key, it'll put them in a special screenshots folder in My Games.

Pretty much. There's a couple of good guides in the strategy articles forum:

ok but im confused on some aspects...

Maybe im wrong here but... I think granaries and aqueducts and hospitals should be built in every city... Am I wrong about this?

Granaries double growth speed and are great to build in every city once they start getting past like size six... earlier if the city grows slowly. Also good to get in place before you whip, or as your first whipped item, as it makes it a better deal.

Aqueducts and hospitals should go into cities once they need the health. Grocers and supermarkets work well too.
