I play on Huge most of the time because I just don't believe I can really get the "Civ" feel by playing anything smaller. However, with my old computer the Duron 1ghz with 512mb RAM, it tended to lag alot between turns. Wonder how my new Sempron 3100+ with 1GB DDR ram will fare with huge maps.

I seen alot of my friends play on standard or small maps but I just don't see the fun of those maps.

Ask anyone. Size matters. Huge is the way to go. ;)

Meh, I play tiny maps very often. I generally lose interest in Civ 4 after an hour or two so tiny maps are perfect:).

So far I have only played on standard and smaller sizes. Don't have time to play on large size maps...

When I'm alone, I usually always play large or huge map. Just recently, following my multiplayer debut, have I started to enjoy the smaller maps. Really depends what kind of game you're looking for at the moment. These days, it's small maps.

I started off with huge maps but found out that the lag in late game was way to much for me. Now i've played a couple standard maps games and i think that is the perfekt size but the lag issue is still there in late game so i think i should go down to small sized map to get a smooth game play.
....useless laptop

My Pc can only handle up to standard for a prolonged amount of time.

:( My favourite maps are the largest ones, there's more to explore.

I play large/monarch/marathon. I find this to be nicly balanced for my style. I only have lag when exchanging world maps.

I've never played anything less than Huge. It's what Civilization is all about. :)
Exactly my words..........:) I would like an even larger map in the next patch: GIGANTIC!!!!!!!!

I play only on gigantic (55*43) maps, epic settings.

Large Maps- They are optimal

Large map, epic.

I don't understand the notion that one hasn't got time for large maps. I play about an avarage of 1h a day tops, games going on for weeks. It's perfect late night recreation for a hard working father of two to return to an ongoing game of Civ for a few turns before bedtime.

I usually sit down for a couple of hours on a small map and complete the game to an extent that I know I'll win (or not). If there could be a nice fight or I have a score to settle, I finish it the next opportunity. I can't stand having a game open for so long, because I'll think about it when I should be thinking about other stuff, like work for instance :mischief:

Well I would love to play my games on huge maps.... But my computer takes quite a hit on those so I am stuck playing on Standard. Never thought this would be a problem on a Civ game? Anyway, this is the first time I have ever played on anything smaller than large (been playing the games since The original) so I tend to agree with those who say that Civilization is best on huge maps even though I am stuck with standard

Want to play huge

drooling over a huge earth map i wanted to try on marathon

But 3GHZ processor, low res graphics, 1GB ram dies on huge maps ;(

Standard for me...cuts down on the length of time it takes to play a game.

Dang, it's like you read my mind. :) The only difference is that I play Civ4 on my laptop during my commute (90 minutes on a bus, each way), instead of the late-night sessions.

I also like large maps. Unfortunately, large Terra maps (I think those are larger than other "large" maps, right?) cause a fair bit of lag in the late-game, so I might have to downsize a bit....

large maps, Gives me more room for cities, which means more cities building military which means more military for invading, which means more land for my military to invade. Which means more land for me to take over. Which means, IM GOD
