What Tech Does Saladin Have?

Started playing at Prince recently. How do you know what techs an opposing AI has? I always thought that you could see them all in the trade window with the ones in red being the ones they won't trade but that's not the case. Saladin's cities are filled with Rifles and yet Rifling is not in his list of techs.

Does the AI get to auto-upgrade his defensive units for free when he discovers a new tech?

You only see in the trade window what they can trade you. Maybe you haven't discovered Replaceable Parts yet, so you have to learn that before he could teach you about rifling.

To your second question, I think the AI gets a big (50%?) discount for upgrading troops on every level.

The amount the AI pays depends on the level:
Settler - 45%
Chieftain - 40%
Warlord - 35%
Noble - 30%
Prince - 25%
Monarch - 20%
Emperor - 15%
Immotal - 10%
Deity - 5%

That was a surprise for me, even on Settler the AI does have some bonus....
