Evie
Pronounced like Eevee
Zachriel : in addition, there's the whole "natural disaster" factor to consider.
Who know? Maybe the tanks were climbinb up the side of a volcano when it blew up? Maybe the battleship that got sunk fighting a trireme actually ran in a reef while hunting down the enemy (and before Zouave ***** about historical realism, the USN once lost a squadron of destroyers on reefs in peacetime, in the early twentieth century).
I've always taken the view that one unit beating another doesn't represent a simple battle result ; it represent, once all "random" factors are taken in, which of the two units survived longer. They may not have been the ones doing the actual killing, but they survived.
The spearment could be destroying bridges while tanks are crossing them, etc, and doing lots of harrying tactics without actually fighting.
As for the riflemen, they represent late civil war to World War I units. A world war 1 riflemen unit against a small squad of world war II paratroopers...tell you what, I'm not in the least bit sure who would win in an outright fight.
However, paratroopers should be able to attack immediately after being dropped (if they aren't at present, not sure) and when they do so gain a "surprise effect" attack bonus.
