This is my 1st game on monarch, playing as the Sumerians, and I'm in the late Middle Ages. I have the tech lead and I'm researching at 100% with a 233 gpt surplus from trades. There are no available wonders, and I'm just starting on Theory of Gravity (5 turns out) and the only other techs until the Industrial Age are Magnetism and Metallurgy. I don't have any saltpeter so I want to get to Infantry ASAP. I have the highest score, and the most land, but have a weak military. However I should be able to keep 100% research up through the age of discovery the SGL would allow. So should I keep him and grab ToE, or Hoovers Damn, or should I trigger the Age of Discovery and pocket even more gold? Newtons University is another option, but it wouldn't provide as many beakers as the age of discovery.

Not sure what is meant by Age of Discovery. Are you talking about using the SGL to get the research boost? If so forget it, it does not work.

Looks like you are able do anything you want. If you are not going to be fighting, sit on the SGL. You can get another SGL while you have one, you just cannot get an MGL while you have any leader.

The "Age of Discovery" is broken and does not work.

The extra beakers will be displayed in the user interface, including a reduced number of turns to next tech, but when you hit the "next turn" button, these extra beakers are not actually added to the total.

So use the SGL for rushing a Great wonder in one turn. Or maybe an other build project.
