What to do with my leader...

I just got a leader from my elite Sipha. I am the Ottomans. I have decided to build an army. I am 5 techs away from tanks. I am thinking about making an army of tanks instead of Sipha.

My question is...

Should I wait unitil I get tanks or make an army of Sipha?

I am not at war with anybody now....

I think I should build and army of tanks.

What you guys think??

Use the sipahis... They have an extra movement point as opposed to tanks. It could come in handy when going to war.

5 techs away... i am not sure how fast u can research techs. each tech takes you more than 10 turns (or u need to accumulate money for 10 turns to buy it from AI) then you'd better make a sipahis army. who knows that you won't get another leader? but if the leader u have now just sit there and wait, u won't get another one for quite a while.

Make an army immediately. That way you have no more leader and get another one, if you're lucky. Whether to fill it with Sipahi or not depends on your plans. War soon ? => Sipahi army. War before you have tanks => Sipahi army. War not soon: leave him empty; as you can always load units into it and fight the turn you need it.

Overall: leave the army empty until you need him, that gives you the most flexibility.

I agree with Rik. Sipahi will become useless in a little while, tanks soon after that, It is best to wait.

An army filled with sipahi's is as devastating as tanks. If you go to war now, you can have the military academy ready by the time you got tanks. Then you have multiple tank armies...
You could also just create an army and don't fill it of course. But a sipahi army doesn't become "obsolete", it's even good v.s. mech. inf. If you're playing c3c, definately go for the army and the offensive right away, since armies are more powerful in c3c. If you're on vanilla, I'd rush the hoover dam if you haven't got that already.

Make an army. If you haven't gotten one already, you can build the Heroic Epic and the Military Academy after a victory.

If you are researching tech every 4 tuns, then wait for tanks. Otherwise, fill with Sipahis. You'll still be able to use the army against better units if you bombard them.

Oh, you just wait CT...one of these days I will be a military nom. But right now, I am Trade and Tech. (I know how to research good and get the best trades.. )

Anyway, In the game I had no wars. I still haven't built Sipha army. I am now 2 techs away in techs and each of them is 6 - 10 turns. Most of them are 7. I am bot losing much gold because good ol Spain gives me 150 to 200 GPT..

I am going after tank army...

Unless get in a bad war soon, then Sipha Army.

Don't forget that a Sipahi army has one movement more than a tank army! So it may reach a target that a tank army can't reach. Sipahi don't get obsolete after tanks. They will after Modern Armour, because that one has more power AND the same movement rate. I would have formed a Sipahi army asap, fish for more leaders, get three armies and then the Pentagon. This allows you to build armies yourself.

Aggie: If he's not at war nor fighting, he can leave the army empty. He will be able to generate more leaders, but hasn't got the option of having made the wrong choice.

Unless of course he needs an army-victory for Heroic Epic etc, deciding at the last possible moment usually is the best.

I would say wait until tanks, make sure you turn your leader into an army though right away otherwise you won't get anymore leaders until you do.

ANother option is to use it defensively. I've built an army of infantry before, and used it to protect my stack of artillery. Also a handy place for injured tanks to repair. Worked rather well .

You could create an army and load it with one Sipha, and use that to win an easy combat and build the mil academy and heroic epic. Then wait and load 2 tanks to it later on.

I know..

Well in the game..I didn't build any army until I got the Tanks. some people may disagree, but they are powerful. Once I entered the Modern Age, Russia declared war one me...Russia is on another continent. So I am going to ship lots of troops to the second most powerful civ. I am the most powerful..

I am going after a Spaceship victory, but I might get a culture...either one city or Whole Civ..very close...
